Obituaries
Betty Jo Venable Bowden
ATHENS — Betty Jo Venable Bowden, 89, Athens, passed
away Tuesday, December 17, 2019.
Bom in Jefferson, Mrs. Bowden was a daughter of the late Okie
Venable Sr. and Lottie Wade Venable. She was a homemaker and
loved to cook and garden. She was lovingly known as Neena by
her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her foster children and the
many children that she kept in her home daycare. She was a mem
ber of Prospect United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowden was preceded in death
by her husband, Charles Guy Bowden; daughter, Dottie Fowler;
brothers, Sgt. Okie Venable Jr., George Venable and Cecil Venable;
sisters, Erene Dell Venable and Mildred Murphy; and sisters-in-
law, Garland Diane "Bunky” Oaks and Frances Venable.
Survivors include children, Debbie Lisano, Alabama, Charles
Bowden Jr., Athens and Diana Cole (Jim), Jefferson; brothers-in-
law, Radford Muiphy and David Oaks; sister-in-law, Linda Ben
nett (George); eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Memorial reception: Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 1 to
3 p.m. at the Prospect United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Prospect Cem

Mildred Dugger
WINDER — Mildred Dugger, 88, Winder, passed away peace
fully in her sleep after a brief battle with lung cancer on Wednes
day, December 18, 2019 at her home.
She was bom in Gordon,
Nebraska, on July 25, 1931 to
Oscar and Christina Anderson.
She was one of six children,
Leonard, Helen, Evelyn, Mil
dred, Dick, and Kenneth. Short
ly after high school she met and
married Bill Dugger who pre
ceded her in death in 1996. Bill
and Mildred moved many times
during their marriage, first to
Caracas, Venezuela, then to
Jordon, Montana, Biloxi, Mis
sissippi, Midland, Texas, and
Jenks, Oklahoma, before set
tling in Conyers in 1976. Mil
dred had a love of life and enjoyed traveling and playing bridge.
She was an avid bridge player and played every chance she could.
While raising four girls she also worked in retail selling cosmetics
and perfume before retiring from Rich’s in 2004.
Mildred is survived by her sister, Evelyn Brehm, Bremerton,
Wash.; daughters, Terri Dugger, Paula Pyatt (Leighton), Dana
Mitchell (Roger), and Marda Keever (Mark); grandchildren,
Abby, Aaron, Austin, Audrey and Samantha; great- grandchildren,
Westin and Adelaide; and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of life: Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 11 a.m. at
Epiphany Lutheran Church in Conyers.
Flowers or donations are welcome to the American Lung As

Judy Kelley Everett
JEFFERSON — Judy Kelley Everett, 72, Jefferson, passed
away Sunday, December 15, 2019.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mac and Edith Puck
ett Kelley; brother, Linton Kelley; and step-daughter, Dana Marie
Everett.
Mrs. Everett is survived by her husband of 38 years, Donald
Everett, Jefferson; son, Nicholas Shane Overby and wife, Jennifer
Overby, Braselton; daughter, Kelly Everett Hemphill and husband
Chad, Jefferson; grandchildren, Erin Overby, Jake Overby, Rett
Hemphill and Edie Hemphill; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie
and Jimmy Greeson, Buford; sister-in-law, Elaine Kelley, Flowery
Branch; aunts, Runnell and Benjamin Youngblood, Buford, and
Virginia Bagley Puckett, Buford; several nieces, nephews, cousins.
Mrs. Everett was bom January 14, 1947 in Lawrenceville. She
was a 1965 graduate of Buford High School, Buford, a 1969 grad
uate of Breneau College in Gainesville, with a Bachelors Degree
and a 1979 graduate of Georgia State University with a Masters
Degree. She was a retired teacher from Gwinnett County Public
Schools after 30 years. Her last school to teach at was Harmony
Elementary School. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority.
Mrs. Everett was a member of the First Baptist Church, Buford.
Funeral service: Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the
chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Johnson of
ficiating. Interment will be at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens, Bu
ford.

Kathy Delores Sorrow Farmer
DANIELS VILLE — Kathy Delores Sorrow Farmer, 60, Dan-
ielsville, died Thursday, December 19, 2019 at her residence.
Mrs. Farmer was bom in Oakland, California to the late Dab
ney Gholston and Sarah Lee Forston Sorrow. Mrs. Farmer was
a member of Canaan Baptist Church and was retired from Mc-
Lane Southeast. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Farmer was also
preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lawrence Farmer;
grandson, Cody Sexton; brothers, David Sorrow and Roger La
mar Sorrow; sisters, Lavonne Sorrow and Gloria Elizabeth Sor
row.
Mrs. Farmer is survived by her sons, Clayton Sexton (Jessi
ca), Brandon Sexton, and Nathaniel Sexton (Krystal), all of Dan-
ielsville; self-adopted son, Shane Walker, Danielsville; brother,
Ronald Eugene Sorrow, Danielsville; sisters, Tammy Lynn Han
nah, Bishop, and Karen Sue Crosby, Lavonia; 16 grandchildren;
and one great-grandson.

Aubrey Moore Finch
LEXINGTON — Aubrey Moore Finch, 88, Lexington, passed
away Tuesday, December 17, 2019.
He was bom February 17,
1931 in Union Point, to An-
nabelle Moore Finch and
Marshal Alexander Finch. He
was preceded in death by his
parents, five brothers, and two
sisters: Marshal Finch, Harold
Finch, Earle Finch, Gordon
Finch, Roy Finch, Imogene
Finch Wynn and Virginia Finch
Pruitt.
Aubrey was a 1948 graduate
and the valedictorian of Union
Point High School. In 1951
he graduated from Piedmont
College where he received his
B.S.Ed. Later, he graduated from the University of Georgia earn
ing both his Master of Education and Education Specialist degrees.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served in the
United States Navy from 1952 to 1955. He spent time aboard the
U.S.S. Iowa, U.S.S. Missouri and the U.S.S. heavy cruiser Albany,
before finishing his active service on the staff of the Joint Com
mand Commander in Chief Atlantic/Supreme Allied Commander
Atlantic. Aubrey was honorably discharged from the United States
Navy on December 9, 1955 as an LTJG “Lieutenant Junior Grade”
(0-2).
Aubrey began his teaching career in 1951 at Brooks County
High School where he taught physical education and coached both
boys and girls basketball. He later taught at Oglethorpe County
High School and served as the girls’ and boys’ basketball coach
from 1956-1959 and later as director of curriculum. He was also
the director of testing and guidance for the Monroe County School
System in Key West, Florida for three years. In 1965, he moved to
Commerce, where he was principal of Commerce High School for
18 years. After 47 years in education, he retired from the Ogletho
rpe County School System in 1998, where he had served as princi
pal of Oglethorpe County High School for 15 years.
He served on the Georgia High School Association Executive
Committee for many years and was named District L Principal of
the Year in 1997 by the Georgia Association of Secondary School
Principals.
In recognition of his stellar undergraduate basketball career,
Aubrey was inducted into the Piedmont College Athletic Hall of
Fame in 1985. He also served as president of the Piedmont Col
lege Alumni Board for five years and received the Piedmont Col
lege Alumni Service Award in 2008.
He was a member of the Georgia Retired Educators Association
and was a past-president of the Oglethorpe County Retired Edu
cators Association. He was also a past-president of the Ogletho
rpe County Rotary Club and a member of the UGA Lady Dogs
Basketball Fastbreak Club. Aubrey enjoyed playing golf, spending
time with his children and grandchildren and vacationing at the
beach. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and loved attending
UGA football games, as well as UGA men’s and women’s bas
ketball games.
Aubrey was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church
and a founding member of the Pathmakers’ Sunday School Class.
He taught Sunday School for 14 years and served on numerous
church committees. He was also a Lay Speaker in the Athens/El-
berton District of the United Methodist Church.
Aubrey is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kate Maxwell
Finch; his children and their spouses, Bob and Noel Finch, Ath
ens, the Honorable Bill and Leah Finch, Cumming, Greg and Dr.
Kathy Finch Thompson, Athens, GA, and Dr. Jim and Kelli Finch,
Forsyth,; 13 grandchildren and their spouses, Francis (Kaylee)
Finch, Havelock, N.C., Will Thompson and Kate Thompson, Ath
ens, Rob Thompson, Austin, Texas, Anna Cathryn (Phil) Mauro
and Rachel Finch, Atlanta, Kennedy, Jimbo, Carli and Max Finch,
Forsyth, Lainey Finch, Winder, and Ginny and Annabeth Finch,
Athens; and two great-grandchildren, Mylie and Peyton Finch,
Havelock, N.C.
Family to receive friends: Friday, December 20, 2019 from
6-8 p.m. at Lord and Stephens East Funeral Home.
Funeral service: Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 2 p.m., at
Tuckston United Methodist Church, Athens, with Dr. John Brown
officiating. Interment will follow at Clark Cemetery in Lexington.

Bob Milford Fowler
Bob Milford Fowler, 83, a life-long resident of the Harrison
Community in Madison County, passed away on December 16,
2019.
Mr. Fowler was a 50-year
member of the UA Local 669
— Sprinkler Fitters Union, a
proud United States Marine
Corps veteran and a member
of the Hannah’s Creek Baptist
Church. He will be remem
bered as a loving husband, fa
ther and avid bird hunter.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, Reece and Lillie
Mae Dickerson Fowler; son,

Catherine Bagwell.
Survivors include his wife,

Hubert L. Hinton
CRAWFORDVILLE, FLORIDA — Hubert L. Hinton, 83, Craw-
fordville (Spring Creek), Florida, died Tuesday, December 17, 2019.
A native of Butler, Georgia, he was bom August 9, 1936. He was a
long-time resident of Jefferson, where he raised a family with his wife
of 51 years, Elizabeth P. Hinton. Hubert was a poultry farmer and loved
hunting and fishing. In the late 1970's, he and his family became pro
prietors of Bud’s Marina (Wakulla County), Florida.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth P. Hinton; mother, Cle-
one W. Byrd; father, Jake B. Hinton; brother, Wanza Hinton; and sister
Grace H. Robinson.
Survivors include his three daughters, Tempie Sailors (Jeff Petty)
and Tonja Guilford (Don), all of Crawfordville, Fla., and Tamra Smith
(Terry), McIntyre; grandson, Sterling Guilford, Tallahassee, Fla.;
brother, Frank Byrd (Betsy ), Milledgeville; and sister, Vangeline Hin
ton (Howard), Beaumont, Texas.

Dr. E.W. "Bill" Holloway Jr.
Dr. E.W. “Bill” Holloway Jr., passed away Sunday, December 15,
2019.
He was bom on November 6,
1932 in Americus, to E. W. Hollo
way Sr. and Bobbie Pilcher Hol
loway. Bill is preceded in death
by his parents and his son, Emory
Marcus Holloway.
He is survived by his wife,
Virginia Strickland Holloway;
his daughters, Chris Holloway
Edwards (Danny), Jan Holloway
Rosson (Jack), and Ann Hollo
way Minish; granddaughter, Jes
sica Ann Minish; grandson, Mar
cus Spencer Holloway (Heather);
and great-grandson, Alexander Holloway.
Bill's love for his family, medicine and travel radiated throughout his
life. He attended Americus High School and graduated in 1949. Upon
graduation, he attended Georgia Southwestern College. His military
service began in 1950. He served in the United States Navy during the
Korean War from 1950-1953. Returning to the states, he continued his
education at Georgia Southwestern, graduating in 1955. Bill continued
to pursue his education at Mercer Univer sity and the Medical College
of Georgia. He interned at the Macon Hospital completing his surgery
residency in 1962.
Dr. Holloway had a Family Practice and Surgery Practice in Com
merce from 1962-1975. Dr. Holloway chose to continue his medical
education at Emory University from 1975-1978, pursuing a degree in
diagnostic radiology. After completing his diagnostic radiology resi
dency, he partnered with Radiology Associates of Macon, continuing
until his retirement in 2001.
Bill believed in the importance of giving back to his community
and becoming involved. Professionally, he was an active member of
the American Medical Association, the Medical Association of Geor
gia, Southern Medical Association, American College of Radiology,
Radiology Society of North America, Charter Fellow of the Ameri
can Academy of Family Physicians, and a diplomat for the American
Board of Family Pr actice.
Dr. Holloway ser ved in multiple capabilities as a member of many
organizations. He was dir ector of the Georgia Academy of Family Phy
sicians, president of the Bibb County Medical Society, and a delegate
to the Medical Association of Georgia. Politically, he was elected as
Councilman for Ward 4 in Commerce.
Dr. Holloway was an active member of the Kiwanis Club and a long
time member of Idle Hour Golf and Country Club and Riverside United
Methodist Church in Macon.
Funeral service: Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Hart's
Chapel of the Cupola with Dr. Laudis Lanford and the Rev. Anton
ie Walker officiating. Private burial with military honors at Riverside
Cemetery.
Family to receive friends: Wednesday, December 18, 2019 following
the service.

Edgar Carl Logan Jr.
WINDER — Edgar Carl Logan Jr., 75, of Winder, formerly of
Smyrna, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2019 at
his residence.
Carl was bom on April 23,
1944 in Moundville, Alabama.
Mr. Logan graduated from
Campbell High School where
he ran track and played foot
ball. He graduated from Georgia
State College in 1968 where he
majored in political science. His
professional life included many
accomplishments: a homebuilder,
developer, sporting goods sales
representative for shooting, hunt
ing, fishing, and law enforcement
agencies, and the business owner
of Simpson Sales Company. Mr.
Logan retired in 2015 to his farm in Winder where he enjoyed farming
and fishing.
Mr. Logan was an active member of the Winder First United Meth
odist Church where he was the stewardship chairman, legacy endow
ment fund founder, member of the men’s Sunday prayer group, and the
present chairman of the church’s council. Mr. Logan was also an avid
fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a dedicated member and fishing
enthusiast of the E-3 Bass Club.
Mr. Logan is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Carl Logan Sr.
and Doris Yeager Logan.
Mr. Logan is survived by his loving wife of 57 years and his high
school sweetheart, Mrs. Betty Davis Logan, Winder; sister, Sandra Lo
gan (James) Moore, Smyrna; niece, Jamie Moore Bell, Roswell; and
nephews, Parker, Austin and Aiden Bell, Roswell.
Funeral service: Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the
Winder First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Calvin Haney
officiating. The members of the men’s Sunday prayer group will serve
as pallbearers.
Family to receive friends: Thursday, December 19, 2019 from 12
until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Following funeral service: Friday, December 20, 2019 at 2 p.m. at
Carmichael Funeral Home, 2950 King St. SE, Smyrna, Ga. 30080,
with layman Eric Dale officiating. Burial will follow the service at
Georgia Memorial Park, 2000 Cobb Pkwy. SE, Marietta, Ga. 30060.
The members of the E-3 Bass Club will serve as pallbearers.
