Georgia Foundation
for Ag offers $65,000
in scholarships
The Georgia Foundation
for Agriculture (GFA) is
offering $65,000 in schol
arships to Georgia students
pursuing a degree in agri
culture, veterinary medi
cine, family and consumer
sciences or a related held,
Swayne Cochran, Jackson
County Farm Bureau presi
dent, has announced.
In addition, the students
who apply for a GFA Schol
arship will also be eligi
ble for the Donald Childs
Scholarship of $500.
The GFA will award
scholarships in the follow
ing four categories:
•Scholarship for Agri
culture - This scholarship
is for high school students
who plan to enter a college
that is part of the University
System of Georgia, Berry
College. Emmanuel College
or any accredited college/
university in Georgia with
an ag program during the
2021-22 academic year to
pursue an undergraduate de
gree in agricultural and en
vironmental sciences, fami
ly and consumer sciences or
a related agricultural held.
The GFA will award 10
scholarships of $3,000 each.
The top three ranked appli
cants will be eligible for an
additional $1,000 bonus.
•Technical College Schol
arship for Agriculture - This
scholarship is for students
who will be enrolled in a
Georgia accredited tech
nical college and major in
an area of agriculture or an
ag-related held of study.
This could include welding,
mechanics or commercial
truck driving. Examples of
eligible majors are available

The GFA will award four
scholarships of $1,500 each.
•Rising College Junior/
Senior Scholarship for Ag
riculture - This scholarship
is for college students who
have at least two semesters
of college remaining to re
ceive an undergraduate de
gree from a unit of The Uni
versity System of Georgia,
Berry College, Emmanuel
College or any accredited
college/university in Geor
gia with an ag program. Ap
plicants must be majoring in
agriculture and environmen
tal sciences, family and con
sumer sciences or an ag-re-
lated held. The GFA will
award eight scholarships of
$2,000 each.
•UGA College of Veter
inary Medicine Scholar
ship — This scholarship
is for students currently
enrolled in the UGA Vet
erinary Medicine program
specializing in large animal/
food animal practice. The
GFA will award two $5,000
scholarships. “I encour
age any student who quali
fies for one of the Georgia
Foundation for Agriculture
scholarships to apply.” said
Cochran. “Agriculture of
fers many exciting career
opportunities. Both farmers
and consumers depend on
the many jobs agriculture
creates such as mechanics,
large animal veterinarians
and food scientists.”

All applications must be
submitted online by March
1. 2021. Transcripts and
letters of recommendation
must be submitted online
with the application.
The scholarship recipients
will be announced in spring
of 2021. Scholarship checks
will be sent to the qualifying
college/university the recip
ient is attending and placed
in their school account upon
verification the student has
met all qualifications for
the scholarship. Scholar
ships awarded to graduating
high school seniors will be
distributed for spring 2022
upon receipt of first semes
ter college transcript indi
cating the recipient is pursu
ing an ag-related course of
study and has at least a 3.0
GPA.
The GFA is a non-profit
501 ©3 organization dedi
cated to preparing the next
generation of leaders for
success in Georgia agricul
ture. The GFA works with
Georgia Farm Bureau and
other Georgia agricultural
and educational organiza
tions to achieve its mission.
The foundation offers schol
arships to students pursuing
agricultural careers, funds
leadership development
programs and projects that
increase the public's un
derstanding of agriculture.
It will soon launch the
Georgia Ag Experience, a
mobile classroom that in
troduces third through fifth
graders to Georgia’s top

Athens on Ice held
through Jan. 31
Athens on Ice is current
ly under way at the outdoor
440 Foundry Pavilion in
Athens.
Extra precautions have
been added to this event in
cluding:
•Masks required at all
times.
•Signed health affidavits
required for entry.
• Mobile tickets only.
Capacity is limited and at
tendees are encouraged to
purchase tickets in advance,
•Box office is closed.
Mobile ticket confirma
tions will be scanned at 440
Foundry Pavilion entry.
•All outdoor access. The
facility is closed to through
traffic.
• Guests encouraged to
enter parking deck from
Foundry Street entrance.
Proceed to level 2 for easy
stroll down Foundry Street.

through January 31.
Skate sessions are 75
minutes at $15 per ticket.
Groups of 10 or more are
eligible for $12 tickets.
Season passes are avail
able online for $120. Fre
quent Skaters Club cards are
also available at the rink to
earn a free session after 10
punches. All tickets include
skate rental for the session.

JCCO GRILL RAFFLE WINNER
Vince Criswell, general manager of North American Stainless, Pendergrass,, a donor to the JCCO
22nd annual Scholarship Fundraiser event, was the winner of the raffle, consisting of a Dina-Glo 3
Burner Grill and a Ryobi Screw Gun Kit. The Grill Raffle was a component of this years JCCO’s an
nual fundraising effort to support the JCCO Scholarship program. “North American Stainless serves
a wide variety of industries, but they fill a critical role in the COVID-19 healthcare supply chain, their
products are used in the production of ventilators, oxygen tanks and hospital beds for the U.S. and
abroad,” states JCCO President Jim Scott. Scott presented the winnings to Criswell at the Jefferson
Civic Center. Scott said that the JCCO appreciates Chris Wilson, Commerce Home Depot Manager,
and his team for the donation.
