Dorothy Louise Nix
GILLSVILLE — Dorothy Louise Nix, 72, Gillsville, left this
earth to enter her heavenly home on Friday, December 18, 2020 at
Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Bom on June 8, 1948 in the
New Holland Community of
Gainesville, she was the daugh
ter of Elvia Cook Carlan of
Baldwin, and the late Monroe
Jackson “J.M.” Carlan. Louise
worked for the Blue Bell sewing
plant for a few years and was a
homemaker for the remainder of
her adult life. She enjoyed cook
ing, sewing, reading, watch
ing Westerns, and listening to
Southern Gospel music. Most
of all, Louise was her husband
Earl’s best friend and a devot
ed mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother. Her love for them outstretched the world. She
was an active member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Bald
win.
Survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, Kenneth Earl
Nix Sr.; children, Porsha Chalmers and Jim Carson, Elaine and Jeff
Williams, Jane and Mike Smith, Earl Jr. and Crystal Nix and Kim
berly and Joey Bennett; mother, Elvia Cook Carlan; brother and
sister-in-law, Marvin and Sharon Carlan; grandchildren, Chelsea
and Christopher Moat, Michaela Smith, Bria Nix, Perrin Winter,
Matthew Chalmers, Jarrett Smith, Seth and Mariah Williams, Dil
lon and Brooke Nix, Brady and Chelsey Winter, Josh Winter and
Luke Parsons; great-grandchildren, Adalynn Kate Bennett, Ay den
Bennett and Owen Moat; several nieces; nephews; other relatives
and friends.
Funeral service: Sunday, December 20, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Mt.
Carmel Baptist Church in Lula with the Revs. Chad Parker, Ken
neth McEntire and Zach Watson officiating. Interment will follow
in the church cemetery with the Rev. Jeremy Carlan officiating at
the graveside.
Family to receive friends: Saturday, December 19, 2020 from 5
until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Colonel Jack L. Pace
Colonel Jack L. Pace, Inspector General, 37 Training Wing, Air
Education and Training Command, Lackland AFB, Texas, was born
August 24, 1941 in Commerce.
He graduated from Athens
High School in 1959 and the
University of Georgia in 1963.
In 1964 he graduated from Nav
igator Training at James Connal-
ly AFB, Texas before training at
Moody AFB, Georgia. In 1969,
he graduated from Pilot training
and was commissioned through
ROTC at the University of Geor
gia. He also graduated from the
French Language Course at the
Defense Language Institute,
Monterey, California in 1975.
His assignments include
James Connally AFB, Texas;
Sewart AFB, Tennessee; Moody AFB; CCK, Taiwan; Defense Lan
guage Institute, Monterey, California; Chanute AFB, Illinois; Yoko-
ta, Japan; and Lackland AFB, Texas. He also had two assignments at
Little Rock, Arkansas and two assignments at Air University, Max
well AFB, Alabama. He was promoted early to Colonel in October
1983.
Colonel Pace’s military awards and decorations include the Dis
tinguished Flying Cross; Meritorious Service Medal, with two oak
leaf clusters; Air Medal, with five oak leaf clusters; Air Force Com
mendation Medal; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, with valor
device; Air Force Organizational Excellence Award; National De
fense Service Medal, with one star; Vietnam Service Medal, with
three stars; Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon; Air Force Over
seas Long Tour Ribbon; Air Force Longevity Service Award Rib
bon, with six oak leaf clusters; Small Arms Expert Marksmanship
Ribbon; Air Force Training Ribbon; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry
Cross, with device; and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Jack was married to the former Susanne Blalock, Cleveland. They
have two sons. Jack and Cheyne; and one daughter, Elizabeth.
Jack is a graduate of the University of Texas Law and Business
Schools. Cheyne is a graduate of the University of Florida and Yale
University Business School. Elizabeth is a graduate of Trinity Uni
versity, Thunderbird School of Business and Normal University,
Beijing.
Jack has resided in Pinellas County since 2003 and leaves be
hind his devoted wife, Shirley Pace. Jack was grateful for Shirley’s
enduring love and support through sickness and health during their
happy marriage.

Thomas Martin Pittman Jr.
NICHOLSON — Thomas Martin Pittman Jr., 80, Nicholson,
passed away and went to be with the Lord on Sunday December
13, 2020 at his home.
Tommy was born January 5, 1940 in Atlanta. He was the
youngest and only son born to Thomas Sr. And Cora Pittman.
Tommy was married to Bessie A. Pittman for 50 wonderful
and loving years. They had three daughters, Deborah P. Krieg-
er (Rick), Diane P. Komisarow and Denise P. Howard (Kelly);
one son, Lamar Pittman (Vickie); 10 grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren. He is survived two sisters, Dorothy Rogers,
Marietta, and Mary Smith, Snellville; and many nieces and neph
ews.
Tommy loved his pets; he had a beautiful golden retriever
named Duke that was always by his side. He retired from River
side Manufacturing in Atlanta. Tommy loved traveling with Bes
sie when they retired and enjoying spend time with each other.
He was a country music fan and was always listening to his huge
collection of old rock ‘n’ roll and country albums and radio play
ing country music. Tommy enjoyed working in his flower gardens
and keeping his lawn perfectly manicured. He was an excellent
cook and baker and enjoyed baking all kind of wonderful sweet
treats at Christmas time with his wife Bessie.
Tommy will be honored with a private family graveside service
on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Crest Lawn Memorial Park
in Atlanta.
Arrangements are being held by A.S. Turner Funeral Home and
Crematory.

Thelma Daniel Sikes Qualls
JEFFERSON — Thelma Daniel Sikes Qualls, 96, Jefferson,
entered into rest Tuesday, December 15, 2020.
Mrs. Qualls was born in
Young Harris, the daughter of
the late Artimis Boone Daniel
and the late Pearl Plott Dan
iel, was a homemaker and
enjoyed attending the Jack-
son County Senior Center. In
addition to her parents, Mrs.
Qualls is preceded by hus
bands, Marvil Sikes and Sam
Qualls.
Survivors include one son,
Joe Sikes and his wife Donna,
Jefferson; two grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild also
survive.
In accordance with Mrs. Qualls’ wishes, her body is to be
cremated and no service will be held at this time.

Frances Elaine Davenport Simpkins
HOSCHTON — Frances Elaine Davenport Simpkins, 87,
Hoschton, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020.
Born October 6, 1933 to the late Seabron and Irene Jones, she
grew up in the small fishing village of Mayport, Florida surround
ed by the love of many relatives and church family. She grew up
knowing that God and integrity were central. Frances married Pe
ter Robert Davenport, a Navy enlisted man. They were married
for 30 years until Peter's death. Frances and Pete had two chil
dren Deborah and Richard. Ten years after Peter's death Frances
married Roderick Gordon Simpkins. They were married 25 years
until Gordon's death in 2019.
Frances has two surviving children; five grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren. She loved them all dearly. Frances al
ways thought of God and others before herself.
Graveside service: Monday, December 21, 2020 at 10:30 a.m.
at Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla.

Lottie Hogan Skelton
JEFFERSON — Lottie Hogan Skelton, 94, Jefferson, entered
into rest Friday, December 18, 2020.
Mrs. Skelton was born in
Jefferson, the daughter of the
late Marion and Dora Lee
Doster Hogan, was a retired
seamstress and at the time of
her death was the oldest living
member of White Plains Bap
tist Church.
In addition to her parents,
Mrs. Skelton is preceded by
her husband, Leonard Odis
Skelton Sr.; son, Odis Skelton
Jr.; daughter, Gail Holland;
and all of her siblings. Mrs.
Skelton was the last surviv
ing member of her immediate
family.
Survivors include grandsons, Jason Skelton and his wife
Shannon, Jefferson, Scott Holland and his wife Jenny, Royal
Palm Beach, Florida, Adam Holland, Orange City, Florida, and
Ian Holland, Hoschton; granddaughter, Karen Skelton, Jeffer
son; and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral service: Sunday, December 20, 2020 at 2 p.m. from
the White Plains Baptist Church with the Rev. Carey Pittman
officiating with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Gentle
men honored as pallbearers are Jason Skelton, Scott Holland,

Danny Paul Walls
COMMERCCE — Danny Paul Walls, 66, Commerce,
passed away at his home Saturday, December 12, 2020.
He was the son of the late
James Howard and Atta Lee
White Walls. Danny was
an accomplished musician,
playing base guitar at many
church services and funeral
services. He will be missed by
his family and friends.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; brothers, Er

Doris Corneal Watson
JEFFERSON — Doris Comeal Watson, 90, Jefferson, went to heaven
on Saturday, December 12, 2020.
Bom on the family farm in
the community of Palestine near
Greenwood, Arkansas, Doris was
the last surviving sibling of six
children bom to John and Cora
Crittenden.
She was raised in Florida where
she met and married Allen Watson
to whom she was married for 62
years. Doris was an employee of
Rich's department store for well
over 20 years, initially in Nor-
cross, and then in Atlanta. She also
worked as a secretary for an engi
neering film in Lawrenceville for
several years. Wherever she lived
from the age of 12 to August of this
year, Doris has served as church pianist or organist. This year, Jackson
County Baptist Church, of which she is a chatter member, established a
music scholarship in her name.
Doris is predeceased by husband Allen J. Watson; and is survived by
son, Richard (Becky) Watson; daughter Donna (Virgil) Harris; grandson,
Joshua (Cristen) Watson; and great-granddaughters, Lily and Delaney
Watson.
At the family’s request, the funeral will be a private graveside service
on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 3 p.m. in the Evans Memoty Gar
dens. The Rev. Matt Booher and Dr. Jack Lawson will officiate.

son County, Mrs. Wilbanks was

and Vinnie Williamson Blalock.
She was the widow of Milton
Wilbanks, the owner of RuJean
Beauty Shop and a member of
Nicholson Baptist Church. Ruth
was preceded in death by a daugh
ter, Glenda Wilbanks; and a son,
Donald Wilbanks.
Survivors include a brother,
Hubert (Pauline) Blalock; sisters,
Francis King and Ruby Cheek;
and a number of loved nieces and
nephews.

Shirley Delree Williams
AUBURN — Shirley Delree Williams, 80, Auburn, passed away
Sunday, December 13, 2020.
She was a Christian and of the Pentecostal faith. Shirley was a seam
stress and retired from R and R Manufacturing. She loved crafting, yard
sales, bowling and horseshoes.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, John E. and Lona Mae
Floyd Gaines; and a sister, Barbara Place.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Williams, Auburn; a son, Tim
othy Rowell (Kim), Kennesaw; three daughters, Shannan Bass (James),
Auburn, Kristin Doster, Jefferson, and Becky Varetoni, Tallahassee,
Fla.; a sister, Alice Burgess, Largo, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren.
The family will have a private service at a later date.

Cheryl Wittenberg
DANIELSVILLE — Chetyl Wittenberg, 72, Danielsville, died on
Tuesday, December 15, 2020.
Bom in Philadelphia to the late Jack and Alma Russell, Cheryl lived
in Georgia for over 30 years. She worked at both St. Mary’s Hospital
and Athens Regional Medical Center. She was a very loving woman
and a mother to all.
Along with her parents, Chetyl was preceded in death by her brother,
Albert; and sisters Margie and Diane.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Larry Wittenberg; daughters,
Kim Hoopaugh and Diane (Jeffery) Wood; six grandchildren, Ryan
Thomas Perry, Kaydee Diane Perry, Aaron Drew Pullian, Alex Brant
ley Pullian, Joshua Wade Wood and Brandy Nicole Wood; and her be
loved dog, Scruffy.
A private graveside service was held at Danielsville Memorial Gar
dens.
