Junior Girl Scout Sophia
Tiborczszeghi recently do
nated pet oxygen mask kits
to five Gwinnett Fire and
Emergency Services fire
stations.
Tiborczszeghi, a fifth
grade-student at Sugar Hill
Elementary, raised $425 to
purchase and donate pet
oxygen mask kits to fire
stations in the Sugar Hill,
Buford and Suwanee areas.
“I hope my efforts will
highlight the importance
of having the appropriate
equipment to save our be
loved pets in case of a fire,”
she said.
Tiborczszeghi, along
with her family, visited Fire
Station 24 across from the
Mall of Georgia to present
the mask kits to firefight
ers earlier this month. The
kits were purchased from
Wag'N 02 Fur Life, an or
ganization which aims to
place kits in every fire and
emergency services depart
ment in the United States.
Each kit features three
mask sizes with tubing to
provide supplemental ox
ygen during respiratory
compromise.
In order to raise enough
money to purchase the kits,
Tiborczszeghi sold home
made “Get Well” cards for
people and pets, provid
ed babysitting service and
sold toys.
In addition to raising
money for the mask kits,
Tiborczszeghi volunteered
at the Suwanee Animal
Hospital, where she com
pleted 32-hours of commu
nity service under the guid
ance of Dr. Joe Fitzgerald.
Sophia's mom. AnaMaria
Tiborczszeghi, worked in
the background to coor
dinate with Suwanee Ani
mal Hospital and Gwinnett
County Fire and Emer
gency Services to see her
daughter's community ser
vice project to completion.
According to Assistant
Chief Clent Hughes, the
mask kits presented by So
phia will be placed on the
fire trucks and readied for
deployment when needed.
“It’s clear that Sophia
has a tremendous love for
animals and genuine de
sire to help the communi
ty,” Hughes said. “We are
proud of Sophia and all the
work that went in to com
pleting her project.”
