Obituaries
Margaret “Peggy” Wilkes Burch
BRASELTON — Margaret “Peggy" Wilkes Burch, 93,
Braselton, went home to be with the Lord and Savior on Tues
day, March 7, 2023.
She was born on April 30,
1929, in Colon, Republic of
Panama. She was the daughter
of Margaret and Leo Wilkes.
Peggy, was a devoted wife
and mother who cherished her
family. Some of the things that
she enjoyed were camping,
traveling and reading. Peggy
also loved her canine babies.
She spent much of her time at
Belvedere Ballpark watching
her kids play. She also watched
some of them play soccer as
well. When the season ended,
Peggy was already packed and
ready to go camping.
In her later years, she enjoyed activities such as white-water
rafting, parasailing, and swimming with the dolphins. She trav
eled with her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on
many special trips.
Margaret will be greatly missed by her children, Joseph An
drew Burch, Jeffrey Douglas Burch and wife Cheryl Burch, Da
vid Moore Burch, Linda Burch Fleeman and Bruce Allen Burch;
10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
There are no services at this time. Interment cremation.

Troy Dennis Chandler
DANIELSVILLE — Troy Dennis Chandler, 84, Danielsville,
entered into his heavenly home on Friday, March 10, 2023. He
was surrounded by loved ones at his passing.
Troy was bom September
9, 1938, to George Raymond
Chandler and Mary Jeannette
Adams Chandler. He was a
graduate of Madison Coun
ty High School. Upon high
school graduation, he worked at
Southeastern Rubber Company,
Transcontinental Gas Pipeline
and Eli Whit Company all the
while he was pursuing his true
passion which was farming.
Troy was a very successful
farmer growing cattle, chick
ens and row crops. He looked
forward to pecan season every
year and the people that came through the door of the shed.
He married Shirley Ann Adams December 20, 1958. Together
they raised two sons, George and Don. Troy was a member of
Union Baptist Church. Troy could often be found watching NA
SCAR racing, Atlanta Braves baseball and, of course, the Georgia
Bulldogs.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary
Chandler; and brother, Howard Chandler.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley; sons, George
(Patsy) and Don (Brenda); brother, Jim (Sue), all of Danielsville;
grandchildren, Kristen Elrod, Greenville, S.C., Katherine Chan
dler, Opelika, Ala., Kelly Slusher (John), Danielsville, Adam
Chandler, Danielsville, and Savannah Chandler, Greenville, S.C.;
and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service: will be at 3:00 on Friday, March 17, 2023,
at 3 p.m. an Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Adams
officiating. Interment will follow at the Union Baptist Church
Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Adam Chandler, George (Wormy)
West, Teddy Fowler, Gary Adams, Wayne Chandler and Frankie
Strickland. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Brown and Clayton
Lowe.
Family to receive friends: Thursday, March 16, 2023, from
6-8 p.m. at Lord and Stephens, Danielsville. Visitation will also
be Friday, March 17, 2023, from 1-2:30 pm. at Union Baptist
Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Hampton House
for the outstanding care they provided for Troy.

Pat Porter Hanley
JEFFERSON — Pat Porter Hanley, 76, Jefferson, entered rest
Thursday, March 16, 2023.
Mrs. Hanley was bom in
Royston, a daughter of the late
Lum Harvis Porter and the late
Mary Brookshire Porter. Mrs.
Hanley was a member of The
Jefferson Church and was a
retired beautician, who along
with her sister owned and op
erated Primp N’ Style for 40
years. In addition to her parents,
Mrs. Hanley is preceded by a
brother, Tom Porter.
Survivors include her hus
band, Jerry M. Hanley, Jeffer
son; daughters, Celeste Crews
(Terry), Demorest, and Jennifer
Cantrell (Drew), Homer; sons, Stacey Hanley (Alisa), Jefferson,
Lamar Roberts (Jon), Jefferson, and Kasey Hanley (Michelle),
Homer; grandchildren, Brittney Sanders (Konnor), Terry Crews
IV, Ally Hanley, Case Hanley, Finn Hanley, Waylon Jarrard, Wy
att Jarrard, Knox Hanley, Essie Cantrell, Hunter Cantrell, Harvis
Cantrell, Sydney Roberts, and Hillary Hanley; two sisters, Brenda
Tolbert, Pendergrass, and Anne Mobley (Mike), Jefferson; and one
brother, Butch Porter (Peggy), Jefferson.

Alice Beatrice Hardman
NICHOLSON — Alice Beatrice Hardman, 95, Nicholson,
died Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Fellowship Home at Meri
wether.
Mrs. Hardman was bom in Sedgwick, Maine, to the late Hen
ry L. and Beatrice Closson Grindle. She was a homemaker. In
addition to her parents, Mrs. Hardman was preceded in death by
her husband, Henry Franklin Hardman; and son, Hubert “Ber
tie” Hardman.
Mrs. Hardman is survived by her daughters, Rosemary Bowen
(Chris), Eatonton, Brenda Sorrow (Wayne), Colbert, and Elaine
Frier, Hartwell; son, Henry Hardman Jr. (Carolyn), Nicholson;
eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-
great-grandchild.
Graveside service: Saturday, March 18,2023, at 11 a.m. at the
Center Community Cemetery.

Ray Lewallen
BALDWIN — Ray Lewallen, 82, Baldwin, passed away on
Monday, March 13, 2023.
Mr. Lewallen was born on July 26, 1940, in Banks County to
the late James and Madge Coffee Lewallen. In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette Lewallen
Watkins; brothers, Swayne Lewallen, Nelson Lewallen, Owen
Lewallen, and his twin brother, Clay Lewallen.
Ray was a member of Baldwin Baptist Church where he had
served as a deacon for several years. He will be remembered as
an avid sports fan, which included the Atlanta Braves, Georgia
Bulldawgs, and NASCAR. Ray was a loving husband, father,
grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was known to his grand
children as “Granddad”.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Glenda Crump
Lewallen, Baldwin; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Rachel
Lewallen, Alto, and Jeff and Valerie Lewallen, Homer; grandchil
dren, Josh Lewallen and his wife, Joyce, Chelsea Lewallen and
Ethan Lewallen; one great-grandchild, Jackson Lewallen; sister,
Ruzelle Lewallen Patterson, Baldwin; and sisters-in-law, Lynn
Lewallen, Homer, Frances Lewallen, Baldwin, Helen Lewallen,
Baldwin, and Peggy Lewallen, Baldwin.
Funeral service: Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 1 p.m. at
Whitfield Funeral Homes, South Chapel, with Pastor Saul Mc
Coy and David Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in the
Baldwin City Cemetery.
Family to receive friends: Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from
11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ray Maddox
HOSCHTON — Ray Maddox, 81, Hoschton, formerly of Bu
ford, died Thursday, March 16, 2023.
Ray was born in Buford, and was a lifelong resident of the
area. He was of the Christian faith and graduated from Buford
High School, Class of 1959. Ray worked at General Motors and
retired with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and
working in his yard, fishing, hunting and traveling. Ray loved his
family and will be greatly missed.
Ray was preceded in death by his grandson, Adam Blake
Smith; parents, Bonnie Maddox and Evelyn Higgins Maddox;
sister, Rita Bennett; brother, Carey Maddox; and brother-in-law,
Stanley Pugh.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryle Maddox, Hoschton; chil
dren, Jimmy Maddox and wife Alma, Dacula, Jan Smith and hus
band Mike, Buford, and Jesse Maddox and wife Amelia, Madi
son; grandchildren, Lauren Tatum and husband Eric, Trent Bagley
and wife Fran, Cory Smith and wife Deanna, Chandler Smith
and wife Noah, Jacob Maddox and Julia Maddox; great-grand
children, Paisley, Bristol, Tresley, Brittan, Bryce, Mackinley,
Blakely, Bryant, Moxon and Parker; sisters and brothers, San
dra Wilson (Harry), Nancy Pugh, Ted Maddox (Janice), Mickey
Maddox (Karen) and Bo Maddox (Becky); brother-in-law, Billy
Bennett; sister-in-law, Nell Maddox; numerous nieces, nephews,
and cousins.
Funeral service: Monday, March 20, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Hamil
ton Mill Memorial Chapel. Pastor Danny Newbern will officiate.

Mary Greenwood Nash
Mary Greenwood Nash passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023
following a period of declining health.
She had lived most of her
life in Barrow County and was
a daughter of the late Ed and
Margaret Williamson Green
wood. Mrs. Nash was preced
ed by her husband of 63 years.
Gene Nash; daughter, Pam Bu-
rel; sons, Greg Nash and Tracy
Nash; and a grandson, Shan
non Montgomery.
She was a member of Sha
ron Baptist Church and was
employed by the Barrow
County Board of Education
Food Service.
Surviving are daughters
and son-in-law, Teresa and Garvin Marsh, Winder, and Melanie
Nash, Jefferson; daughter-in-law, Debbie Nash, Winder; son-
in-law, Ernest Burel, Auburn; seven grandchildren; a host of
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and brother,
Grover Greenwood, Tennessee.
Graveside service: Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Bar-
row Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Richard Cole officiating.

Tina Noland
DANIELSVILLE — Tina Noland, 58, Danielsville, passed
away at home surrounded by loved ones on, Friday, March 13,
2023, after a short battle with lung cancer.
Bom in Gainesville in
1964, Tina was just 2 years
old when she was adopted
by her mother and father Inez
and the Rev. James Wilhelm
Jr. She came to know Christ
as her Lord and Savior and
followed in baptism at an ear
ly age. She went on to grad
uate from Athens Christian
School in 1983 and obtained
her medical assistant certifi
cation many years later.
She was the owner and op
erator of “House Perfect” for
over 30 years and absolutely loved what she did and the clients
and friendships she gained. Living most of her life in Athens,
she met her husband, Randy, in 1996 and shortly after they had
their first daughter, Mariah, then 25 months later were blessed
with their second baby girl, Macey. This allowed Tina to ac
complish what she wanted in life — to love, be loved and to
have a family of her own.
Her children were the light of her life. She was an amazing
wife, mother, daughter, aunt, sister and friend. She touched the
lives of so many people.
She will never, ever be forgotten.
She was proceeded in death by Inez and Glenn Scarbor
ough, her mother and step-father; and the Rev. James Wilhelm
Jr., her father.
She is survived by her husband, Randy Noland; her two
daughters, Mariah (Alex) Azevedo and Macey Noland; her
siblings, Cindy (Gordon) Waters and Randy Wilhelm; numer
ous nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
Funeral service: Sunday, March 19, 2023, at 3 p.m. at Lord
and Stephens Funeral Home in Danielsville. She will then be
laid to rest in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

1-3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Linda Kay Taylor Shelton
COMMERCE — Linda Kay Taylor Shelton, 80, Com
merce, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023.
Bom on April 9, 1942, in Burnsville, N.C., Ms. Shelton
was the daughter of the late
Clayton and Awa Drake Tay
lor. She was the widow of
Bill Coffey, was a Registered
Nurse for 32 years with Ashe
ville Hospital Systems, and
was preceded in death by a
son, Christopher Shelton.
Survivors include daugh
ters, Rhonda (Paul) Griffin,
Asheville, N.C., and Traci
(Dennis) Crawford, Ashe
ville, N.C.; brother, Troy Tay
lor; sisters, Brenda Peterson,

Jimmieann Rooks Turner
Jimmieann Rooks Turner, 64, wife of the late James David
Turner, died on Tuesday, March 7, 2023.
Bom in Winder, she was the daughter of the late James Ed
ward Rooks and Laura Belle
Casper Rooks, both from
Winder, and sister to the late
Mark Rooks, Melbourne,
Florida.
Her spirit was one of com
plete empathy and consider
ation for others. She dedicat
ed her life to those she could
help by constantly reminding
all of the bright side of life,
providing inspiration through
encouraging words, and en
suring those that were close
to her had everything they
needed physically, mentally and spiritually.
Jimmieann graduated summa cum laude from Piedmont
College in 2009 earning a Bachelor of Arts in middle grades
education. She worked as a language arts, social studies,
special education and English Speakers of Other Languages
(ESOL) teacher at Haymon-Morris Middle School in Winder
and Grace Snell Middle School in Loganville. Mrs. Turner
was adored by both her colleagues and students.
Survivors include her son, David Turner and daughter in
love, Ashley Nesbitt-Turner, both living in New Orleans,
Louisiana. She also leaves behind one brother. Michael
Rooks, Winder. Jimmieann will be greatly missed by her
darling little dog, Maggie, as well as countless friends and
family members.
Funeral service: Friday, March 31, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Lord
and Stephens West Chapel with Pastor Frank Windom offi
ciating.
