Obituaries
First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force,
where he was a pilot assigned to a troop carrier
squadron in Europe. Dr. Homer’s first son, Daniel,
was bom during this time.
Following military service, Dr. Homer complet
ed a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at the
University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and served as
staff psychologist and Director of the Outpatient
Mental Hygiene Clinic at the Tuscaloosa, Ala.,
Veterans Affairs Medical Center, as well as adjunct
professor at the University of Alabama, until his re
tirement in the early 1990’s.
While in training at the Tuscaloosa VAMC,
Frank met and married his wife, Marie, and raised
daughter, Sherry. After a clinical internship in Dal
las, Texas, where their son, Mark, was bom, Dr.
Homer and family settled in the Idlewood subdivi
sion in Tuscaloosa, Ala., his beloved home for over
50 years.
Dr. Homer’s kindness, steadfast reliability and
generosity deeply touched the lives of his family,
his friends and his veteran patients. His beaming
smile, quick wit and genuine interest in others’
well-being will be greatly missed, but ever present
in our hearts and minds.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. C.
“Jack” and Hazel Homer; three siblings, Dwight
Homer, Bettye Stone and Wilma Ruth Chambers;
his wife, Marie Gortney Homer; and long-term
companion, Mary Ann Judice.
Dr. Homer is survived by his daughter, Sherry
Beggs; two sons, Dr. Mark Homer and Daniel Ful-
ghum. Sherry Beggs’ family includes her husband
Paul, their two children, Christopher and Heather,
live grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Dr. Mark Homer’s family includes his wife Eliza
beth, their daughter, Chloe, and son, Ethan. Daniel
Fulghum’s family includes his wife Jane, daugh
ter Danielle, two sons, Brent and Chad, and seven
grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will take place at
Greenwood Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tenn. at a
date to be determined.

William Dennis Kress
TRAVELERS REST, SOUTH CAROLINA —
William Dennis Kress, 74, Travelers Rest, South
Carolina, formerly of Commerce, passed away Fri
day, May 19, 2023, at his residence.
Mr. Kress was bom
January 1, 1949, to the
late Henry and Anna
Kress in Perth Amboy,
New Jersey. He attend
ed Commerce Presby
terian Church where he
was an active member
of his Sunday School
class. He was the for
mer owner of Georgia
Stage, Inc., and spent 60
years as a magician. His
favorite roll was that of Drosselmeyer in The Nut
cracker for the Gwinnett Ballet Theatre Company.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Wil
liam Kress; parents; and brother, Leonard Kress.
Mr. Kress is survived by his wife, Melanie Kress;
nephews, Richard Kress (Karen) and Robert Kress
(Anne Marie); niece, Donna Gusera (Rob); and
four grand-nieces; and one grand-nephew.
Funeral service: Friday, May 26, 2023, at 2 p.m.

Linda Dianne Phillips
'WINDER — Linda Dianne Phillips, 70, Winder,
passed away Friday, May 26, 2023.
She was a member of White Plains Baptist
Church. Ms. Phillips loved her Sunday School
class. She sang in the choir, loved gospel music,
was a volunteer at the Winder Barrow Hospital and
spent her time at home with her family.
Survivors include her sister, Gail Shedd, and
husband David; niece, Holly Whitlock, and late
husband Derek; nephew, Justin Shedd, and wife
Tonya; great-nieces, Lyndsee Adams and Kelsie
Shedd; and great-nephews, Josh Shedd, Caleb Ad
ams and Grayson Shedd.
She was preceded in
death by her parents,
Ralph and Geneva Phil
lips; grandparents, Lus
cious and Alma Brewer
and Frankie and Susie
Phillips.

Carla Marie Shaw
HOSCHTON — Carla Marie Shaw, 51,
Hoschton, passed away Wednesday, May 24,2023.
She was bom in Wind
er, to Gary and Betty
McDougald Carlyle on
February 9, 1972. Carla
was preceded in death
by her husband, Shan
non Russell Shaw and
was a member of Mul
berry Baptist Church.
Mrs. Shaw was an ac
countant and homemak
er.
In addition to her par
ents, she is survived by a son, Damon Russel Shaw;
sisters and brother-in-law, Shelia and Gill Stovall
and Joyce Watkins, all of Hoschton; and a number
of nieces and nephews.

Russell Randolph Stinchcomb
WINDER — Russell Randolph Stinchcomb, 90,
Winder, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
He was a member of
Peoples Baptist Church.
Randolph was a native
of Hoschton and a son
of the late Giley and Es
sie Allen Stinchcomb.
He retired from General
Motors and was a 40-year member of The United
Auto Workers Union, where he was a committee
member.
Randolph proudly served his country in the Army
during The Korean War, and his community as a
past Winder police officer and being a past mayor
for the City of Carl. After his retirement, Randolph
started Stinchcomb Service Company, where
he was able to provide affordable plumbing and
HVAC for many people in Barrow and surrounding
counties. He loved his family and his University of
Georgia Bulldawgs.
In addition to his parents, Randolph was pre
ceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Ann
Reidling Stinchcomb; a son, Randy Stinchcomb;
and eight siblings, Joe Allen Stinchcomb, Robert
Stinchcomb, Avery Stinchcomb (June Bug), Gene
Stinchcomb, Runell Pursley, Martha Bell Garrett,
Helen Collins and Lona Mae Sanders.
He is survived by a son, Paul Stinchcomb (San
dra), Winder; daughters, Sharon Rooks, Mel
bourne, Fla., Karen Ransome (Chris), Jackson
ville, Fla., and Shelby Lee, Dawsonville; brothers,
W.L. “Bill” Stinchcomb, Watkinsville, and Tommy
(Sue) Stinchcomb, Winder; grandchildren, Chari
ty Montgomery, Rusty Stinchcomb, Elias Stinch
comb, Wesley Stinchcomb, Daniel Stinchcomb,
Jasmine and Cailyn Goodwin, James Stinch
comb, Kezia Archbome, Sarah Ellis, Mary Grace
Hodgetts, Joey Collins, Rusty and Arthur Brown; a
host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and
his dear friend, Voncile Wehunt, also survive.

Sondra Jewell Peck Strickland
JEFFERSON — Sondra Jewell Peck Strickland,
79, Jefferson, passed away on Friday, May 26,
2023.
Mrs. Strickland was
bom in Gainesville,
a daughter to the late
Thomas Jewell Peck
and the late Cora Clan
ton Kersh Peck. Mrs.
Strickland was a mem
ber of the Stonepath
Church in Maysville,
and was an underwriter
for the Liberty Mutual
Life Insurance Compa
ny for 25 years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Strickland was
preceded in death by her infant daughter, Misty
Dawn Clark; and great-granddaughter, Juni Fields.
Survivors include her husband, Reverend Dugar
Strickland, Jefferson; sons, Chris Clark and his
wife Wendy, Pendergrass, Michael Clark and his
wife Denise, Mt. Airy, and Carey Strickland and his
wife Kristi, Jefferson; daughters, Kim Pinson and
her husband Bryan, Gainesville, Cheryl Kesler and
her husband Phillip, Nicholson, and Deneen Fields
and her husband Robbie, Jefferson; 21 grandchil
dren; and 13 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral service: Tuesday, May 30,2023, at 3 p.m.

May 31, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the Murrayville C.H.
