Obituaries
Branson “Noon” LeRoy Adams
ROYSTON — Branson “Noon” LeRoy Adams,
85, Royston, passed away at his home on Monday,
July 10, 2023.
Branson was born
on January 14, 1938,
in Ila, to the late Omer
Lee Adams and the
late Willie Mae Evans
Adams. He was an in
dustrial worker having worked at Overhead Doors
Corporation. Mr. Branson was an avid sportsman
and Army veteran. He was also a member of River
side Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by brothers, Herman Adams and Andrew Ad
ams; sisters, Sally Fannie Ervin, Edna Merle Allen
and Aurelia Drake; granddaughter, Jessica Hall;
and great-granddaughter, Riverlyn Adams.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Savilla Gib-
by Adams; four children, Branson Brian Adams
(Lisa), Camesville, Robin Adams, Royston, Rus
sell Adams (Tabitha), Royston, and Miranda Sosby
(Timothy), Royston; brother and sisters, Bill Ad
ams, Danielsville, Rebecca Gunnin, Danielsville,
and Elenor Fitzpatrick, Danielsville; grandchildren,
Rusty Adams (Jade), Noah Adams, Breanna Ad
ams Segars (Lee), Abigail Pilon, Nicholas Sosby,
Charley Sosby, Amber Adams (Haley), Ty Adams,
Tyler Lowe and Dylan Lowe; and five great-grand
children.
Funeral service: Thursday, July 13, 2023, at
3 p.m. at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with
the Revs. Glenn Lyles and Paul Jameson officiat
ing. Interment will follow in the Riverside Baptist
Church Cemetery in Royston.
Family to receive friends: Wednesday, July 12,
2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pruitt Funeral Home. At
other times the family will be at their respective
homes.

Stella Eloise Caldwell
Stella Eloise Caldwell passed peacefully Friday,
July 7, 2023.
She was bom on Janu
ary 22, 1943, in Winder,
to Hubert C. Lyle Sr. and
Liller Lyle. She was the
last of six children, three
boys and three girls.
Educated in the Wind-
er-Barrow School Sys
tem, she graduated from
Glenwood High School.
She continued her edu
cation at Clark College,
Atlanta, a testament to
her steadfast determination and intellectual prow
ess.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Stella
will be remembered for the incredible impact she
had on the lives of those around her. To her children,
Andre and Anita she was not only a devoted mother
but provided a loving and nurturing environment
where they thrived. Stella’s vibrant personality at
tracted many cherished friendships throughout her
life, including her co-workers at the Barrow Coun
ty Health Department and at Walmart.
Together they created cherished memories filled
with laughter and support. Stella’s kind spirit, un
wavering dedication and warm heart will forever
be remembered by those who were fortunate to
have known her.
Stella was predeceased by her parents; btother,
Robert Lyle; sister, Sarah Lyle; and son, Andre
Caldwell.
She leaves to be inspired by her legacy, her daugh
ter, Anita Darcel Hudson; her sister, Ann McDon
ald (Foster); brothers, Richard Lyle (Lauretta) and
Hubert Lyle Jr, (Mildred); granddaughters, Quinta
and Tyresha Caldwell; grandsons, Tyre Deiondre
Caldwell and Christopher Hudson Jr.; great-grand
son, Tyrek Andre Caldwell; nephews, Norris Lyle,
Charles Anthony McDonald, Byron McDonald,
Justin Lyle Sr. and Hubert Lyle III; niece, Michelle
McDonald; and a host of grand/great-nieces and
grand/ great-nephews.
Funeral service: Thursday, July 20, 2023, at
1:30 p.m. at Bush Chapel AME Zion Church,
Winder.
Family to receive friends: Wednesday, July 19,
2023, from 1:30 to 7 p.m. at Eberhart and Son Mor
tuary, Winder.

Mack Oliver Childs
TOCCOA — Mack Oliver Childs, 76, Toccoa,
went to be with Jesus on Lriday, July 7, 2023.
Mack passed away peacefully in his home after an
extended illness while surrounded by his loving
family.
Mack was bom
on May 14, 1947, to
Clarence and Mildred
Childs in Commerce.
After high school he
joined the United States
Army which was the
beginning of a life of public service in law en
forcement.
After his military service, Mack met the love of
his life, Shirley Anne Ray. They were married on
March 30, 1968.
Later that year, Mack began working for the
Commerce Police Department. In 1971, he joined
the Georgia State Patrol and moved to Toccoa with
Shirley where they began their family.
Mack served with the Georgia State Patrol for
the rest of his career in what proudly he referred
to as a public servant. His career included stops in
Lawrenceville and Madison. Mack would eventu
ally return to where he started as a state trooper but
this time as the post commander in Toccoa. After
32 years, he retired in 2002 from law enforcement
but spent retirement continuing to serve others.
Mack was a member of Carnes Creek Baptist
Church where he demonstrated his belief in serv
ing others as a deacon and in directing the men’s
Brotherhood ministry for many years. He also was
a member of Gideons International.
In retirement, Mack and Shirley enjoyed some
of their happiest years together. They spent count
less hours on the lake fishing. They traveled to
many of their dream destinations. Mack found a
new hobby in woodworking. In particular he loved
making wooden pens, bowls and rolling pins on
his lathe. More than making them, however, he
found the most satisfaction in giving them away
to friends and family. Most of all, they spent time
loving on and spoiling their six grandkids and six
great-grandkids.
Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Clar
ence and Mildred Childs; and his brother, Jimmy
Childs.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; their two
children, Matt (Dori) Childs and Cindy (Denver)
Gunn; along with three siblings, Joy (Charles) Er
vin, Quinton Childs and Shirley Jean Pledger.
Lamily to receive friends: Wednesday, July 12,
2023, from 5-7 p.m. at Whitlock Mortuary.
Luneral service: Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 11
.m. from the chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the
Rev. Jason Defoor, David Steele and Parker Gar
rett officiating. The Georgia State Patrol Honor
Guard will provide Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully re
quests donations be made to Gideons International
or to the Men’s Brotherhood at Cames Creek Bap
tist Church in Toccoa.

Dennis Jerral “Jerry” Cronic
WINDER — Dennis Jerral “Jerry” Cronic,
Winder, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023.
He was proud of
the time he served his
country in the United
States Army. While in
the Army he received
specialized training at
Sheppard Air Lorce
Base in Texas.
He always enjoyed
life and he loved
spending time with his
friends and family. He
particularly enjoyed
Sunday dinners with his granddaughter, Sara. Jer
ry loved spending time on his Harley Davidson
motorcycle. He was a true NASCAR fan and he
always followed the late Dale “The Intimidator”
Earnhardt. He loved old classic cars and pickup
trucks and he was a sales consultant with U.S.
Auto Sales.
Jerry loved anything outdoors: hunting, hiking
and gardening and his lawn was always well kept.
He loved animals, especially his Boston Terriers.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents, John Hen
ry and Arah Lois Cronic; his wife, Joan Lavem
Richardson Cronic; his sister, Mary Greason;
his five brothers, William “Bill” Cronic, Charles
Cronic, Sam Cronic, Red Cronic and Bob Cronic;
and his two Boston Terriers, JR and Winston.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Llores
and her husband Nelson; granddaughter, Sara
Llores; sisters-in-law, Lois Decker Cronic and Ann
Deaton Cronic; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Heidi Waldroup Fields
COMMERCE — Heidi Waldroup Pields, 57,
Commerce, died Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Pied
mont Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Pields was bom
in Cincinnati, Ohio, to
the late James Mau
rice and Janet Ruff
Waldroup. She was a
member of The Grove
and was employed at
Athens Clarke County
Police Department.

vived by her husband,
Greg Pields, Com
merce; daughter, Jena
Brown (Derek), Braselton; son, Zak Pields (Ka
tie), Commerce; sisters, Sherryl Kukelhan, Shan
non Mihal and Holly Arrowood, all of Cincinnati,
Ohio; and five grandchildren.
Luneral service: Saturday, July 15, 2023, at
12 p.m. at The Grove Gymnasium with the Revs.
Chad Rising and Rodney Wilbanks officiating. In
terment will follow in Grey Hill Cemetery.

Judith Anne Hames
COMMERCE — Judith Anne Hames, 76, Com
merce, died Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at her resi
dence.
Mrs. Hames was bom in Willoughby, Ohio, to the
late Frank H. and Kathleen Carter Bock. She was
a retired hairdresser and worked in retail for many
years.
Mrs. Hames is survived by her husband, Joe
Hames, Commerce; son, Michael Barber, DeKalb
County; and sister, Sherry Crews, Waycross.
No services are planned at this time.

Billy “Bam” Hancock
Billy “Bam” Hancock, 72, cherished husband,
father and pop, passed away on Thursday, July 13,
2023.
Bom in Athens, he
was a son of the late
Dennis L. Hancock and
Eunice Holmes Han
cock. He was a longtime
truck driver with Averitt
Express and was known
for his BBQ chicken. He
was also an avid NA
SCAR fan and loved the
Georgia Bulldogs.
Survivors include his
wife of 49 years, Blair
Colson Hancock; daughter, Rebekah Hancock; two
grandsons, Ezra Hancock and Zeke Peneguy; two
siblings, Betty Staines (Jay) and Gary Hancock
(Lynn); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service: Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 3 p.m.
at Lord and Stephens East.
