Boy scout troop trying to raise
funds after storm destroys van
By Ben Munro

Braselton Boy Scout
Troop 146 is still feeling
the effects of powerful
storms that swept through
the area two weeks ago.
On July 20, a large
tree crashed on top of the
troop’s 15-seat van while
parked at New Liberty
United Methodist Church,
collapsing the vehicle’s
roof, shattering the front
windshield and leaving
the troop without trans
portation. The troop held
a Saturday cleanup day
to remove and cut up the
tree.
“They use it to travel
on a monthly basis,” said
Megan Knapp, who has a
son in the troop and serves
as one of the troop’s par
ent leaders. “Right now,
it’s a pretty big loss for
them.”

by Scout Master David
Dickson, has started a Go-

Hoschton
Jackson
Co. to
withdraw
annexation
objection
Jackson County will with
draw its objection to a proposed
annexation after reaching an
agreement with a developer.
The move, approved 5-0 by
the Jackson County Board of
Commissioners (BOC) on July
25 will reduce the number of
homes in a proposed Hoschton
subdivision of over 300 units
tied to this annexation. This will
allow the parties involved to
avoid a Sept. 6 arbitration hear
ing. The agreement—signed by
the county, developer and City
of Hoschton — will be sent to
the arbitration panelists for their
signatures. Once signed, Jack-
son County will officially lift the
objection.
Providence Group seeks to
annex approximately 33 acres
into Hoschton as part of a 110-
acre gated development of sin
gle-family residences and town-
homes. The development would
