Automobile accident
One person
seriously injured
in I-85 accident
According to multiple re
ports, a 2013 BMW X5 trav
eling northbound on 1-85 hit a
guard rail and overturned near
mile marker 133 on Friday,
Aug. 25, injuring two people,
including one person seriously.
The vehicle’s front-seat pas
senger was reportedly ejected
through the sunroof and found
unconscious, while the driver
sustained minor injuries. Both
were transported to Northeast
Geoigia Medical Center in
Gainesville.
Aminor in the back seat was
unharmed.
Charges are pending at this
time, according to the Georgia
State Patrol.
Braselton PD
Man tased, arrested after
threatening officer during
gas station incident
Braselton police tased and ar
rested a man at a Hwy. 211 gas
station who reportedly threat-
ened an officer, struck a custom
er and attempted to break into
another customer’s vehicle.
Joseph John Gilbert, 45,
2100 Derby Lane, Braselton,
was charged with obstructing a
law enforcement officer, misde
meanor simple assault and felo
ny criminal attempt to enter an
automobile.
According to the arrest re
port, Gilbert was intoxicated and
cursed at the responding officer.
He reportedly advanced toward
tiie officer after being told to stop
and fonned a fist with his left
hand. Gilbert was reportedly told
to stop again but continued to
advance and extended his hands,
telling tiie officer to shoot him.
Gilbert reportedly continued to
walk forward, at which point the
officer deployed a taser and inca
pacitated him.
The officer had been called to
tiie scene after a disturbance re
port at the gas station. According
to a witness, Gilbert followed a
man around the store and cursed
at him before punching him in
tiie face. The witness said Gilbert
then exited tiie store, attempted
to enter tiie witness’s vehicle
and then punched a window. He
said Gilbert “came at him with
his fists clenched” after telling
him to move away from his ve
hicle. The witness retreated into
tiie store but said he saw Gilbert
punch and kick his vehicle’s
door in an attempt to gain entry.
The man whom Gilbert re
portedly struck inside tiie store
was no longer at the scene, ac
cording to tiie report.

by Braselton police included:
•Deana Scroggs, 43, 7301
Williams Rd., Flowery Branch
— burglary and possession of
drug-related objects. Scroggs
was arrested for reportedly steal
ing tools from a job site after wit
nesses identified her. According
to tiie arrest report, she also ad
mitted to possessing glass pipes
used for inhaling narcotics.
•Michael Dean Campbell, 31,
homeless — warrant. Campbell
was reportedly found passed out
in an SUV in a yard off Hwy.
124 when police discovered
a warrant for his arrest out of
Hall County. During a search
of Campbell and his bookbag,
police reportedly found crys
tal methamphetamine and 20
syringes, five of which were
loaded with a brown liquid sub
stance. Another syringe with
brown residue was found in
Campbell’s pocket.

an said her lather shoved her
against a hallway wall after she
confronted him about taking her
vape pens. The woman’s lather
said she ran by him and hit her
shoulder on a door frame.
•suspicious activity on Kaival
Lane where a hotel guest said
construction workers looked
through a peephole in her room.
According to tiie incident report,
tiie woman was moved to a dif
ferent room, but she argued with
construction workers tiie follow
ing day in tiie hotel lobby.
•miscellaneous report on Leg
ends Dr. where police respond
ed to a report of a heart attack
and found a man deceased at the
steering wheel of a vehicle.
•information on Friendship
Rd. where a woman drove up to
officers and said she was being
followed by a driver she didn’t
know. An officer talked with the
driver, who said she worked for
the CIA and Elon Musk. The
driver reportedly showed no
signs of impairment but was
evaluated by emergency med
ical services, who detennined
she was not under the influence
of drugs or alcohol. The driver
refused transportation to a hos
pital.

away from his mother at a car
wash and towards oncoming
traffic on Friendship Rd. Ac
cording to tiie incident report,
an employee stopped tiie child.
The mother then reportedly re
turned to tiie business, took the
child and left before an officer
arrived. Police filed no charges
against the woman.
West Jackson incidents
Multiple mailboxes found
open on Maddox Rd.
A West Jackson man who
lives on Maddox Rd. said he
found his and some of his
neighbors’ mailboxes open in
a possible mail theft case.
According to a report filed
with the Jackson County
Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), the
man said an informed deliv
ery report revealed five pieces
of missing mail that should
have been delivered to his
address.

man used his name, address
and phone number to rent a

the incident report, the man
was concerned the U-Haul
was used for illegal activity.
•battery/simple battery
(family violence) on Pond Ct.
where a man said his wife,
whom he is divorcing, hit him
in the face with an open palm
while discussing finances.
•theft on Cherokee Trail
where a woman said a man
scammed her out of $150 af
ter she agreed to purchase an
iPad and headphones through
Facebook Marketplace.
