Obituaries
Helen “Susie” Bowden
HOMER — Helen “Susie” Bowden, 85, Homer, passed away
on Friday, August 4, 2023, at her home.
Susie was bom on September 3, 1937, in Atlanta to the late
Charles and Ruby Burdette. In addition to her parents Mrs.
Bowden is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William
Bowden.
Mrs. Bowden had many hobbies but bowling was her passion,
she bowled in many leagues in Jefferson and Gainesville over the
years. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and
great-grandkids.
Survivors include a sister, Jeanette Amos; son. Chuck Bowden
(Kim); Daughters, Sheila Ledford, Gwen Gary (Thomas) and
Cynthia Brown (Mike); nine grandchildren; and eight great-grand
children.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Philip Barry Chandler Sr.
WINDER — Philip Barry Chandler Sr., 72, Winder, passed
away on Friday, August 25, 2023.
Phil was bom February 9, 1951, in Athens to Ola Belle Akins
Chandler and the late Hubert E. Chandler. Phil loved and was an
active member of his community.
He served as a member of the Davidson Masonic Lodge and
was a proud member of the Winder-Barrow High School graduat
ing class of 1969. After high school, Phil attended and graduated
from the Kenrredy-Western University with a Bachelor of Science
in Engineering: Safety.
Phil was nationally recognized by OSELA for his safety records
as a safety and security director for Thrall Car Manufacturing,
where he retired after nearly 30 years. Phil served as a reserve
deputy for the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Joe
Robinson and Sheriff Jud Smith.
Phil may have been best known for his tremendous passion for
music and art. He was a founding member of “The Full House
Band” along with his close friend Ernie Graham and was a very
talented artist, most notably for his drawings and paintings.
Phil was also known for his love of classic cars, his love for
cooking, and in his younger days, being an avid hunter and mem
ber of the Bethlehem Hunting Club.
More than anything, he loved his family immensely, especially
the love of his life, Cindy Martin Chandler, who passed away in
2006.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by sons, Philip “Barry”
Chandler Jr. and Mandy, and Andrew Chandler; daughter, Kristin
Boyd and Chase; grandchildren, Audrey Chandler, Ethan Barry
Chandler, Aryya Boyd and Piper Boyd; and sister, Judie Lanier
and John.

Ronald Gregory Clack
TOCCOA — Ronald Gregory Clack, 75, Toccoa, passed away
on Monday, August 21, 2023.
Ronald was bom and raised
in a Christian home in Barrow
County. He was the son of the
late Mascolene Blackstock
Clack and Robert Clack.
He retired as a facilities man
ager for Double Tree Hotels.
When not working, he enjoyed
trout fishing and camping at
Turner’s Comer in the North
Georgia Mountains.
He was a skilled woodworker
and was mechanically inclined.
He was comforted by his son’s
K-9 companion, an American
Pit Bull that he affectionately
called “Booner”, even though his name was Bo.
In addition to his parents, Ronald is preceded in death by his
daughter, Wendy Clack; his brother, Gerald Clack; and his wife,
Patti.
Ronald is survived by his two children, Gregory Clack, and
Melissa Cormier and husband Earl; his two sisters, Linda Duna-
gan and husband Frankie, and Bobbie Jean Ellington and husband
Jerry; his four grandchildren, Courtney Blinn, Brittany Hargrove
and husband Stephan, Ashley Cormier and Georgia Clack; his five
great-grandchildren, McKinley Blinn, Avery Blinn, Lucas Har
grove, Seth Hargrove and Riggs Barrett; and several nieces and
nephews.

Brenda Jean Smith Little Whitley David
HULL — Brenda Jean Smith Little Whitley David, 76, Hull,
passed away Saturday, August 26,2023, in her residence under the
care of Traditions Hospice surrounded by her loving family.

othy Elizabeth “Betty” Melton
Huth. She retired from Dairy
Pak after 36 years of service
and was a member ofWhitehall
Baptist Church. She enjoyed
gospel music and going to The
Gospel Bam in Danielsville.
In addition to her parents,
Brenda was preceded in death
by her son, Gary Little; son-in-
law, Joe Cooper; and her sister,
Gail Wyatt.
She is survived by her hus
band, John Henry David, Hull;
children, Teresa Cooper, Colbert, Timmy Little and his wife,
Hope, Commerce, Jimmy Little and his wife, Christy, Daniels
ville, Mike Little and his wife, Lisa, Ila, Mark Little and his wife,
Melanie, Commerce, Pete Whitley and his wife, Gail, Bogart; and
Hattie Tatum and her husband, Kelvin, Nicholson; siblings, Pam
Everett, Dennis Huth, David Huth, Pat Bolden and James Huth;
30 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews
and friends.
Funeral service: Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. in the
chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with the Reverends Jimmy
Edwards and Wayne Wills officiating. Burial will follow in How-
ington Cemetery in Nicholson. Pallbearers will be Daniel Cooper,
Christopher Little, Malachi Little, Nathanial Little, Brandon Bals-
er, James Tatum, Tyler Tatum, Jesse Little, Harley Little, Bryston
Walker, Aiden Cape, Randy Whitley and Coty Akin.

Eric Conrad Drake
Eric Conrad Drake, 45, cherished husband, father, brother and
friend, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 11, 2023.
Bom in Athens, he was a son
of Hazel Bridges and the late
Randolph Conrad Drake. Eric
was a Veteran of the United
States Air Force and was a truck
driver for Penske Logistics. He
was a faithful Christian and a
member of Crossroads Church.
Eric had a generous heart and
enjoyed helping others, rock
collecting and most important
ly, ensuring that his family was
properly loved and cared for.
His beloved family includes
his wife, Valarie Drake; chil
dren, Devon, Myra, Vandra,
Kara and Branson; daughter-in-law, Haley; son-in-law, Aaron; and
brother, Alex.

roads Church. Interment will follow at Community Baptist Church

Larry Eugene Farmer
NICHOLSON — Larry Eugene Farmer, 75, Nicholson, passed
away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at his home with his family
by his side.
Larry was the son of the late Olirr and Sara Kesler Farmer. He
was a member of Antioch Methodist Church. Larry was a retired
electrician who enjoyed traveling, spending time restoring antique
cars and attending car shows. But he especially loved days spent
with his family.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his
daughter, Kristi Wood; and brother, Leon Farmer.
Larry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy Williamson
Farmer, Nicholson; children, Traci Banks (Tim), Mt. Airy, Shan
non Glines (Chris), Homer, and Kelly Farmer (Cathy), Nicholson;
sister, Sara Smith; brother, Jerry Farmer; grandchildren, Hannah
Lester, Whitney Goodson (Tyler), Breanna Glines, Jacob Glines,
Zaclrry Glines, Caden Glines, Addison Glines, Cally Farmer and
Konner Farmer; and great-grandchildren, Maddie Cuadros, Asher
Goodson and Thatcher Goodson. He is also survived by his niece,
Pam and nephew. Derrick, who always held a special place in his
heart.
Graveside service: Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the
Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Zack Hawks of
ficiating.

Grace Worley Gulley
ATHENS — Grace Worley Gulley, 94, Athens, died Tuesday,
August 22, 2023.
She was bom August 7, 1929, in Franklin County to James Iras
Worley and Nettie Mealor Worley.
After graduating from Banks County High School, she moved
to Athens and worked in nursing and later as a hair stylist. She op
erated Grace’s Beauty Shop on Commerce Road for many years.
She married Edd Everett Gulley in September 1951; they had
two sons, Paul Harvey and Harold Everett. She was a member of
First Baptist Church, Athens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her elder
son, three sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Harold Gulley and
Angela Ray, Skokie, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service: Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the
First Baptist Church, Athens, with the Rev. Matthew Marston offi
ciating. Interment in Evergreen
Memorial Park.

Betty Anne Stephens Irvin
LULA — Betty Anne Stephens Irvin, 84, Lula, went home to
be with her Savior and beloved husband, Curtis, on Friday, August
25, 2023.
She was bom on April 22,
1939, in Charlotte, North Car
olina, to Arthur Alexander and
Margaret Ball Stephens. Betty
Anne was one of eight sisters
and loved spending time with
her family.
She married her true
love,Curtis, on September 13,
1958, and loved spending time
camping at Low Gap.
Betty Anne was a devoted
wife and loving mother. She
loved her girls fiercely and
made sure they knew Christ.
She was the most precious
grandmother and great-grandmother: she loved her grandkids with
every ounce of her being. Affectionately known as Nanny Curtis
by her oldest grandkids (Adam and Haleigh), she was there to sup
port them in every game, play, graduation and honors day. She was
their biggest cheerleader.
Betty Anne was a long-standing and devout member of Beth
lehem Baptist Church in Lula. She loved the members and they
loved her.
Betty Anne is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mar
garet Stephens; her husband, Curtis Irvin; sisters and brothers-in-
law, Catherine (Chris) Garrison, Shirley (Cecil) McGehee, Juanita
(Everett) Pless, Margaret (Raymond) Orr, Brenda (Jimmie) Bull
ock and Mary (Wayne) Strickland; and grandson, Chad Pass.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Renee and Jimmy
Pass, Lula, and Becky and Rodney Foster, Lula; grandson, Adam
Foster, Lula; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Haleigh and
Jared McDougle, Lula, and Jason and Amy Pass, Murrayville;
great-grandchildren, Sean and Ava Foster, Dahlonega, Jase Mc
Dougle, Lula, and Isaac (Olivia), Isaiah, Isabella, Illianna and Ila
Faith Pass, all of Murrayville; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara
and Wayne Poole, Lula; special niece, Debbie Orr, San Mateo,
Florida; special friends, Drema Watson and Debbie Durham;
along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special heartfelt thank you to her sons-in-law, Rodney Foster
and Jimmy Pass for helping with her care.

chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart Funeral Home with the
Revs. Len Land and Johnny Stone officiating. Interment will fol
low at Westview Cemetery in Lula, with special speaker Adam
Foster, and a song by Jase McDougle.

James Patrick Morris
NICHOLSON — James Patrick Morris, 85, Nicholson, died
Monday, August 14, 2023, at his residence.
Mr. Morris was bom in Hall County to the late James Dillard
and Annie Lee Ferguson Morris. He was a member of Riverside
Baptist Church and was a retired electrician with the University
of Georgia.
Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, Doris Poole Morris, Nichol
son; sons, Ronnie Morris (Dottie), Cornelia, Timmy Morris (Rhon
da), Lula, Michael Morris (Tracey), Cornelia, Terry Morris (Tere
sa), Maysville, Mickey Poole (Stefanie), Nicholson, and Rickey
Poole (Michele), Athens; daughter, Glenda Meeler (Randy), Nich
olson; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
