Mite 2, •' EOM’ Establish«'Southem Baptist Task LESBIAN RIGHTS NIGHT Force SELGM CONFERENCE SET FOR JUNE ACLU OF GEORGIA TO HOLD ANNUAL 5th -8th MEETING Planning sessions for the Southern Baptist Convention which is meeting in Atlanta June 10, 11 and 12, have produced the following: 1. The creation of the Southern Baptist Task Force for Gay Concerns 2. A hospitality effort which will include a staffed suite with booths and information from various organizations. Co-ordinating with the Task Force are three representative volunteers from the Atlanta Gay Center Board of Directors. All organizations are urged to send volunteer representatives to the remaining planning sessions which are held each Tuesday, 6:30PM at the Atlanta Gay Center, 63 12th St. NE. LESBIAlV/GAY RIGHTS CHAPTER OF GEORGIA ACLU TO CELEBRATE PRIDE The Lesbian/Gay Rights Chapter of the ACLU of Georgia will hold a statewide conference on lesbian/gay issues Friday June 20,1986 at the Metropolitan Community Church of the Blessed Redeemer, 800 North' Highland, Atlanta, Georgia at 7:30 p.m. Participants frgm throughout Georgia will present the ideas and concerns of their communities. CARD TO MEET CARD, Greater Atlanta Registration Drive, will med on Tuesday, June 3,1986 at 7:30 p.m. at the Atlanta Public Library, Virginia Highland Branch. CARD is' the voter registration program of the Atlanta Business and Professional Guild that has been registering voters in both Fulton and Dekalb counties for the past three years. The Lesbian /Gay Rights Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia invites all to attend an evening on "LESBIAN RKJHTS", Wednesday May 28, 7:30PM. The meeting will be held at the Inman Park Public Library, 447 Moreland Avenue (in Little Five Points). There will be a panel discussion as well as audience participation. The evening will begin with the L/G Rights Chapter business meeting at 7:30 to be followed by the panel and question and answer period. AID ATLANTA TO HAVE CANDLELIGHT VIGIL Atlanta will join 50 other cities in a National ‘AIDS Candlelight Vigil Memorial Day, May 26, 1986 at 9:00p.m. on the Academy of Medicine lawn, 875 West Peachtree. The vigil is sponsored by AID Atlanta as a gathering of solidarity and light to remember those who have left us and support those who are living with AIDS. Everyone is asked to bring a candle. Louise Hay Postponed Contrary to the article published in the last issue of THE NEWS concerning the Louise L. Hay, "Love yourself, Heal Your Body" seminar, the event has been rescheduled for a later date. Information concerning the new seminar date will be published upon confirmation. Integrity to Meet Integrity Atlanta, 4 group for gay /lesbian Episcopalians and friefrds, will meet on Friday, June 13th at 7:30PM in the library of All Saints Episcopal Church, 634 W. Peachtree St. The meeting will begin with Holy Eucharist, celebrated by Rev. Stina Pope, followed by a pot-luck supper. For more information, call 876-0012. The Eleventh Annual Southeastern Conference for Lesbians and Gay Men will be held on the campus of Tulane University in New Orleans, June 5 through 8. The four-day schedule will be packed with workshops, entertainment, speeches by nationally-known speakers, films and videos. Persons interested in registering for the conference should contact SELGM office by writing PL Box 41877, New Orleans, Louisiana 70151 or by contacting AID Atlanta for available brochures with registration forms. Registration fee for the conference is $27.00 and must be received no later than May 30. SEXUALITY CONFERENCE FOR WOMEN A sexuality conference for women will be held on June 13, 14 and 15, 1986 at the Howard Johnson Hotel, 10th St and 1-75/1-85, Atlanta, Georgia. NO/AIDS TASK FORCE SPONSORS AIDS CONFERENCE The First Annual Southeastern Conference on AIDS will be held in conjunction with the SELGM conference June 5-8 oii the Tulane University campus. The conference will feature workshops, speakers, medical updates on AIDS and the Louisiana premiere of the film BUDDIES. Persons registering for the SELGM Conference may attend the AIDS Conference at no additional cost. Registration forms are available at AID Atlanta. A chartered bus will be sponsored by AID Atlanta to attend the conferences at $55.00 per person. Contact AID Atlanta for information. The 1986 Annual Meeting of the ACLU of Georgia will be held in the Dana Fine Arts Building on the campus of Agnes Scott College in Decatur on Saturday, May 31,1986 at 1:30 p.m. Elections of officers and board members for the coming year will take place. Of particular interest to the gay and lesbian community will be a panel discussion of AIDS and civil liberties. Panel members include Dr. Ward Cates of the Centers for Disease Control, ACLU Cooperating Attorney Jon Zimring and Ronald Cohn, member of the Georgia AIDS Task Force and the Board of Directors of AID Atlanta. HELP-LINE CLASS COMPLETES TRAINING Eleven new graduates completed the 10 week training course to be volunteer counselors for the AGt Help-Line on Monday, May 5. The training, which occurs on consecutive Monday evenings plus one all day Saturday session, covers listening and counseling skills plus information on community resources and services. The new class and present Help-Liners celebrated on Sunday, May 11, with a Pot Luck Dinner described as "indecently delicious." One volunteer who helped train the new class summed up the whole Help-Line attitude when he said, "In addition to the good feelings I get from working for others on the telephone, the Help-Line has helped me make more good friends and feel more part of the community than anything I've ever done in my whole life. Every new group of volunteers just makes it better and better. We're really going to enjoy working with the people from the new class. They have a lot in common but the variety of different people is amazing.
