Ladies’ Basque, with Ripple Sleeve Cs-ps
and Skirt.
OUR ILLUSTRATIONS.
4034.
Thia handsome drawing represents the
modal glove-fitting basque with added rip
ple skirt, the full “leg-o’mutton” sleeve
being of latest design, the top fashionably
decorated with the stylish ripple sleeve
cap. Smooth faced cloth of a delicate
shade of Faience blue was thus trimmed
with jet braid. A rounded yoke on front
and back, deep cuffs and corselet were
formed by rows of the braid, while the
ripple sleeve cap, skirt and collar, were
edged with a single row of the same.
Velvet, satin, silk, moire, or Bengaline,
can be handsomely combined with cloth,
serge, Henrietta, Cashmere, or other
woolen material, by making the sleeve cap
and skirt of the velvet, etc. Any style of
passementerie, braid or galloon can be
substituted for the jet braid. The front
is closed invisibly with hooks and eyes,
but buttonholes and buttons can be used
if preferred. This pattern is cut in five
sizes, viz: 32, 34, 36, 38, and 40 inches
bust measure. Retail price of pattern is
25 cents. To our subscribers, only 10
cents.

This is a desirable style of cestume for
a small boy before he is promoted to the
dignity of knee trousers, and is much liked
by them, as it never looks “girlish.’' The
kilt is laid in deep side plaits, in true
Scotch style. This should be buttoned on
to the underwaist, by buttonholes made
in the belt. The vest fronts and coat are
in one, although it is a pretty fancy to
make the vest of a different color or ma
terial. The edges are finished with ma
chine stitching, or narrow braid can be
used, if preferred. Dark green cloth is
here pictured, worn with an ecru vest and
a bright plaid necktie. Pattern cut in
three sizes, viz: 2,4, and 6 years. Retail
price, 25 cents. To subscribers, only 10
cents.

GIRL’S DRESS.
This is one of the latest designs, having
the ripple effect on the lower edge made
by a circular skirt piece added, which can
be omitted if preferred. The sleeve can
be made with one, two, or three caps. A
combination of velvet and cloth can be
used, making the ripple skirt, upper and
under sleeve caps and collar of velvet.
Patterns cut in five sizes, viz : 32, 34, 36,
38 and 40 inches, bust measure. Retail
price, 25 cents. To our subscribers, only
10 cents.

We here give a very desirable model of that I
style of dress or tea gown
known as the ‘‘Prin
cesse.” As pictured, it
was made of yellow man
darin crepon, stylishly
trimmed with ruffles of
black blonde lace, and
butter bows and girdle of
yellow satin ribbon.
Shaped by darts in front,
it fits the figure smoothly
and so makes a very ac
ceptable walking dress
model for ladies who pre
fer to have the weight
of their gown depend
from their shoulders.
Any preferred mode of
decoration may be cho
sen, to correspond to the
material used in mak
ing. This will be found
a desirable model for
cotton goods, and wash
materials, that ladies
now make up for sum
mer wear. White nain
sook trimmed with em
broidery or lace ruffles
will look pretty when
made this way, and
will be easily laundered.
Patternscut in five sizes,
viz: 32, 34, 36, 38 and 40
inches bust measure.
Retail price of pattern,
35 cents. To our sub
cribers, only 10 cents.
We here present a very desirable and
beautiful design for a child. The model
was of diagonal wool plaid in red and
black, the lower edge of the skirt, sleeves
and neck, being trimmed with narrow
black velvet ribbon. The jacket body
and ripple sleeve caps, were of two-toned
velvet—red and black—the front and back
being caught together with rosettes of red
satin. Hat of red felt, sa n ed with velvet
to match, and trimmed with red satin ro
settes. Very stylish dresses can be devel
oped in plain material in this design, trim
ming the jacket and ruffles on the free
edges, with braid or lace insertion. The
jacket can also be made separately, for re
moval if so desired, and a single sleeve
cap can take the place of the double one
here shown. Pattern cut in four sizes,
viz : 4,6, 8 and 10 years. Retail price of
pattern, 25 cents. To our subscribers, on
ly 10 cents.

used to make the basque with the length
ened sleeves and high neck, or it can be
made all of one material and trimmed
with galloon or jet braid. Patterns cut

This comfortable coat was of Dahlia red
1025-— This basque, designed for home
or street wear, is one of the latest and most
popular styles. The model was of Paris
ian novelty cloth, woven in shades of
green, magenta and brown, most harmo
niously blended, the velvet trimming be
ing of the rich magenta. The effect was
almost bewildering, even in this season of
startling combinations, but the-brightness
can be modified to suit individual taste.
Any of the popular brown shades trim
charmingly with velvets either brown or
green. The two tones effect being much
used in velvet. Eminenee, purple and
blue are colors much worn trimmed with
velvet of a darker shade. The basque can
also be made of one material and tailor
finished with stitched edges or braid; jet
or galloons can be used to outline the re
vers, collars and cuffs. Many rows of
braid is a very popular and exceedingly
stylish finish for basques in this style.
Patterns cut in five sizes: 32, 34, 36, 38
and 40 inches, bust measurement. Retail
price, 25 cents. To subscribers, 10 cents.

LADIES’ BASQUE.
NOTES.
Straw-colored natte edges are novel and
taking for fancy ribbons.
Printed yarn effects in ribbon are at
tractive and yet not expensive.
Pointille or dot effects are as pretty in
ribbons as in woven and printed silks.
Soft-finished taffetas and dotted effects
rival black touches and changeable color
ings.
Some exclusive houses think well ©f a
rich black gros grain ribbon for the
spring trade.
Every other woman is wearing a crush
collar of Magenta velvet, but it proves
becoming to about one in ten.
Every importer and manufacturer of
silks has some patterns especially in
tended for shirtwaists.
Pink and yellow, green and violet, and
biege and yellowish-red—chrysanthemum
—continue good selling combinations.
Black tulle covered with silver and
steel spangles forms a most effective
evening toilette made up over white or
black satin.
With the shirt waist and round bodice,
this spring, belts will be worn that are of
satin, moire or gros grain ribbon, fasten
ing with buckles of a large size. They
are of Russian and rococo designs in steel
or a mixture of colors. Black and white
enamels and the Russian filigree of multi
colored jewels are new and pretty. Novel
and expensive buttons have a portrait
with a frame of gold or steel, or a similar
frame encloses a black, green or white
ground painted with flowers that match
the shades seen in the dress goods. Large
pearl buttons will be worn on the double
breasted vests and basques worn this
spring and summer in woolen and heavy
cotton goods.
