Long I thirsted. “Cannot God who reigns
on high,
And who notes the sparrow’s twitter,
hear my cry?
Father one in Heaven, last me, nearer

Just one little draught of water to me
send!”
Thus I prayed, and God had hearkened to
■ my prayer:
Gave me more than I had hoped, yet bade
me care

With the sweetest nectar. Every drop I
spilled!

With horse and hound and bugle note
The all went crashing by,
While through the dell, with labored
breath,
The first fled from the maddening cry.
For miles along the forest aisles
The antlered monarch sped
By winding paths, now up, now down,
Now swam the torrent’s bed.
The twilight came on velvet feet;
Ben Lomond’s shade was near;
His failing strength was gathered then;
His heart beat last with fear.
One backward glance he lent the pack,
Then plunged him in the flood.
’Mong rocky isles he wound his way;
He gained the bank, and safe he stood,
While bugle notes in distance wound
Proclaimed the last was up,
And weary horses, men and dogs
Went home to rest and sup.

ANGELIC ANNOTATIONS.
With our behindhandedness, the press
has been too fast for us, so our Christmas
issue was hardly what we had intended.
We hope to be able to do better this year,

better.—Phortoeytus takes the honors of
the issue, which the rest will doubt'ese

—St. Julian’s Diamond was slated for ear
lier use, but we learned again the lesson of
our early school days, that slates are frag

A most delightful Christmas present was
the revived Oracle. Once more a “broad
side,” it does not approach so closely as
was its wont to typographical perfection,
but the work is good, and McGinty’s ac

case oi “Young Bagley” very pleasant
reading. The chatterer, however, is not
so busy as we should like to find him.—
“Merion Maze” announces a solving tour
