Judge Andrews received as he deserved
high commendation from the Grand Jury,
who in their general presentments spoke
to warm terms of his integrity and faith¬
fulness in discharging his duties.

on all the convicted criminals as follows :
On Alfred Cooper, found guilty of volun¬
tary manslaughter, ten years imprisonment
in the penitentiary; on th© fourteen ne¬
groes found guilty of assault with iutent
to murder, four years ; on Thomas O’
Jackson, two years.

Prolific Cotton.— The Macon Tele¬
graph of recent date says : VYo saw ano¬
ther stalk of cotton at Jonathan Collins &
Son’s, yesterday, which was rather some as
a cotton stalk, as much as lias bceu said
about hi tig oot ton-tins .season. It was
from the plantation of Mr. C. W. Battle,
of Monroe county, and sported 340 bolls
when he cut it yesterday, in addition to
several bldbms and squares near the top.
But a flaw of the bolls had Qpcned and the
rest were as green and round as if it were
the middle of August instead of October.
The cottou is known as “ Hunt’s improved
variety,” and the seed of this stalk was
furnished by .that gentleman. He lives in
Hancock couuty.
