FRIDAY MORNING, Duo. 8, 18(H).
Ourself —In consequence of recent
heavy expenditures in providing mate¬
rials for the better management of our
business, wo are constrained to ask each
one of our patrons in arrears to do his
or her duty by the immediate payment
of hills due us. A small amount from
each patron will make up an aggregate
of great importance to us—our business
is rapidly increasing, which necessarily
increases our expenses, find hence the
increased demand for money. Our
stock of material is barely sufficient to
carry ou our work successlully, and we
desire to add more type and fixtures to
our office—and beg our friends to help
us at once. The Journal is a fixed in¬
stitution of the county, and cannot, be
broken down. Our business is better
than ever before, and only needs prompt
ness on your part, and industry on ours,
to make it prosper. Give us a chance,
and we’ll do our duty—it possible.

In consequence of tho recent inter¬
ruption of our internal affairs, we have
neglected to pay proper attention to our
in door duties. The market reports
have been overlooked ; local Miatters
have parsed unnoticed, &c., but now
that, things are beginning to become
fixed and settled, we rhul! give undivid¬
ed attention to business, and will en¬
deavor to make amends for the past.

There never was a more self-evident
fact than die want of houses in Sparta.
Strangers are frequently here on the
hunt of a location, who would like to
make Sparta their home, but nre unable
to buy or rent either dwelling, store or
shop room, and hence they go elsewhere
to live. Now this is not as it should
be. The owners of vacant lots should
either improve or sell them, the recent
location of the District Male and Female
High Schools here, creates an increased
demand for house-room in Sparta, and
every property holder ought to aid in
supplying this want.
CLUB MEETING.
The Debating Club convened ou
Wednesday last, but there was no do
bate, owing to the small number of
members present. Has the interest
passed away with the novelty ? Let the
young men assemble at the Schoolhouse
on Wednesday next, prepared to dfscuss
the subject of “political parties.”
