its teachers as well educated, and as
well qualified for rearing and instruct¬

such success in teaching, only erring in

.Though a Hereto Taylor built large
hoarding houses, and on academy, learn¬

laudable undertaking with the name of
“Taylor’s Folly.’’ Though the school
at the site of our county is not as flour¬
ishing at the present time as it may be,
yet, what has been done can again be
accomplished, and even apparent impos¬
sibilities can, by effort and joint co-ope

actual certainties. Then, let our peo¬

in our villages, in the county, and ma&e

flourish a large High School, while the
neighboihood schools 'act as feeders to
it. Fnorgy and hard labor can alone
bring these about. Supiueness and in

vicinity, and on the ruins have sprung
up schools in neighboring villages which

night. But where there was so much
excellence, large space should be given
to file narration. Time and space for¬

us to speak of only two or thrtns of the
many interesting incidents. To J.
Boyce Ficklen, wo return our thanks
for his extraordinary fine delivery of his

could have delivered the extract better.

REPORT.
To tfte Trustees of the * Culver ton Male and
Female Institute.
Gentlemen :—The undersigned
having been app inted a Committee to
examine the classes of your school on
the 1st inst., beg leave to submit to you
the following report:
We were pleased to observe such
order during the exercises, as to con¬
vince us that the discipline of the
school-room is unexceptionable.
The classes were subjected to a most
thorough examination, both by our¬
selves ana by the principals of the In¬
stitute. The result was most satisfac¬
tory j that tiie teachers have been UU
tiring, and the pupils exceedta B ly dilli
gont was clearly evinced, both by rapid
progress amf*rure proficiency.
We would commend the elegant and
appropriate address of Col. B. T. Har¬
ris. His tribute to the teachers, pupils
and piftttms of the school, urnl espec : ul
ly to the memory of Iluidy C- Culver,
was just and beaut iful.
The striking originality and variety
of the exhibition at night, rendered the

No partiality wa.® patent in the dis¬

merit was the only criterion-
The elegance of the address, irud the
gracefulness ot thff orator who deliver¬

eye of every one in the hail, und stamp¬
ed George F. Pierce, Fsq. a rising and
promising young man.
As conducted by Mr. Kendrick und
Mrs. Kimbrough, we most cordially re¬
commend the school at Culverton.^ The
scholars have advanced well, and they
will continue to advance. The teach¬
ers are untiring hi energy, firm in go¬
vernment, and persevering in instruc¬

JSuch merit is already appreciated,
and the Culverton Male and Female
