IMPORTANT TO PLANTERS!
The extreme lateness of the season renders it imperative that Cotton Planters should use a first
class Fertilizer, as it is a well established fact that such an article will cause the Crop to mature a full
month earlier than it would without Manure; and no Planter should try to make Cotton this season with¬
out using Standard Guanos, such as our Manipulated Guano, Guano, Salt and Piaster Compound, and
Phoenix Guano, which we are offering on the following liberal terms:
Wilcox, Gibbs & Co’s Manipulated Guano..............$70.00 per ton.
Guano, Salt and Plaster Compound..................... 65.00 “ “
Phoenix Guano............................................ 57.50 “ “
/
At Savannah, Ga., and Charleston, S. C.
Payable in Middling Cotton at fifteen cents per pound, delivered at Planters’ nearest Depot, on or
before the 1st November next, with option of paying money, if so preferred. One hundred and fifty to two
hundred pounds per acre of these articles, applied during April, will advance the Crop and make up for
the backwardness of the season, and we are satisfied will pay the Planter a handsome profit.
Orders will be filled promptly, by ourselves or our Agents in the interior.

Ejects of Under draining — E x -
pertinents in undraining land were
made in Scotland tor the purpose of
determining 1 the effect on the tem¬
perature of the soil compared with
that of the same vicinity which was
not drained. The result was that the
draining raised the temperature
one to five degrees, equal to a re¬
moval of the laud from one hundred
to one hundred aud fifty miles south.
This is an important consideration
connected with compact, heavy soils,
whose retentiveness of water renders
them cold and comparatively inert
with respect to vegetation. The drain¬
ing of laud involves a very considera¬
ble expense, but its increased pro¬
ductiveness soon repays this, besides
ussuring increased profits for the fu¬
ture. So says a correspondent in the
Boston Watchman and Reflector.

Dry Earth for Redding. —R. Gid
dings, of Illinois, saves the manure
and adds to the comfort of bis stock
by using .dry earth in the stables.—
To do this, he fills a stall or large
biu in his stable during dry weather
with pulverized clay, road scrapings
or common soil. With this he covers
the floor of the stall three inches in
depth, and then places the litter for
the animals’ bedding on it. By this
means all the urine will be absorbed,
and its wealth of nitrogen saved; and
such is the absorbing power of dried
earth, that a three-inch flooring will
not be so thoroughly saturated in a
long-time as to require replacing. lie
says bis experiment required but one
bin of pulverized earth to absorb the
urine of ten or twelve cattle during
the stabling season; and that two men
with a learn filled the bin in a diy.
One ton of the saturated earth is
worth more than the sarao weight of
even fresh saved dung. The average
amount of plant food thus saved from
the stalls is fully double, and in much
better condition for use.
