fFhe Strain Boat Company of
Georgia Continue to give despatch und accom
modation to Goods and Shippers —'l he Company
is at this time better prepared tor business, than at any
time previous. Having at this moment three steam
boats engaged in the trade between this and Augusta,
and one just hunched which will be ready tn run
by the Ist oi July, viz: the Turulo, the Augusta, the
Savannah, and tin* Georgia, all of which arc first rate
towing boats, and commanded by able ond experienc
ed Captains. The t<-w boats, 17 in number, are all
in prime order, the most of them new or nearly to,
and equal in every respect to any in the U States.
The situation of the Company’s wharves are pe
culiarly well adapted to the business, having four
wharves of 100 leet each entirely separated from
any other wharf property. The sheds and stores are
rendered secure from fire, nnd Goods are always re
ceived for forwarding free of storage. The Cotton
Yard being inclosed and fitted for the reception of
Cutton, and responsible, watchmen employed
night nnd day, making both Cotton and other Gooda
always safe. The steam and tow boats have all been
built at Savannah with a view to meet low rivers,
and it is believed they will answer as w ell as any o
ther boats for that purpose. But in order to insure
despatch at all times, the Company have it in con
templation to cut a canal from Augusta to some point
oti the Savannah River, rielow the Shoals. For this
purpose n very libera Charter was granted by the
Legislature ot this State, and a survey of the ruuto
has been commenced, and is now in progress, under
the direction ot Colonel Cruger, one of the most skil
ful and experienced Engineers in the U. States* With
every exertion on the part of the President and Di
rectors of the Company, and active Agents, and ae
commodating Officers, the Company hope for a con
tinuance of that patronage hitherto extended to it.
