il' has so long been the custom of persons announ--
cing their design to establish a Press, to issue a
Prospectus containing the principles which they in--
tend lo maintain, that a departure in the present in
stance would hardly be pardoned. The people have »
unquestionably the right to be informed, what path
we design to travel, »nJ lo judge first of its propriety,,
and aiterwards it there should be a deviation from the
same- We would therefoie. briefly slate, that our
object is to advocate and support to the extent oi our
ability, the doctrines professed and practised by the
Union Parly of uui State, believing them to be essen
tial io the preservation of our existence as a nation
and the perpetuation of our happiness as a people’
These we believe to be generally known and under
stood by the citizens ot out State, and indeed the pro
per limit of a prospectus would preclude their being
examined and explained in detail. Heat e fully awaro
that professions made and not practised are wore
than tutile. If we should be found tergiversating in
our course, we are of consequence amenable to our
patrons and readers, and by them, we are willing to
be judged.
I ortions of the paper will be devoted to miscellane

AT THREE DOLLARS PER ANKUM,
BY NATHANIEL M. CAULDER.
OUR first year has nearly closed, and as yet, we
nave never come before the public, with a re
gular prospectus. Our vi.ws it is true, have been
biieily si t forth in Ibe first number of oar paper, but
its <ii culation, at tnat early period was oi course, ve
ry limited, and they could not be very wideL dissem
inated. Under these circumstances, presenting our
Prospectus, it is but right that we should, in as fewr,
words as practicable, reiterate them. Our Country,/
our State, and our Home, have an equal claim, and/
their several and uuited intereat, it shall ever be oun
aim to promote. I
'lhe general politics of our beloved country, shall - *,
occasionally occupy our columns, but as Editors, we, ‘
disclaim all political party connections. A strict and
undeviating neutrality, shall al ways characterize our J
writings, for reasons which are good, and substantial. ■
Our patrons and triends are found among those of f
noth parties, and it is al their suggestion, we consent <
t j pursue ibis course, tor lhe establishment of the pa- m
uer is de-ired by all, ami could not be sustained ex
cept by a Union of both. Tims then, we aie engaged
anil to our Inends of both |Xiriies, to our patrons, and
to lhe public-—we pledge our best, and most uriremit
ted exertions, to render ours, a useful, entertanmg
