A WEEKLY NEWSPAPER published in

Literature. &c.
ST has so long been the cuatom of persons nnnctin
erng their design to establish a Preas, to issue »
Prospectus containing the principles which they in
tend to maintain, that s departure in the present
stance would .hardly be pardoned. The people have »
unquestionably the right to be informed, m hat path
we design to travel, end to judge first of its propriety,
and afterwards if there should he a deviation fiom the
same* We would lherefoie, briefly state, that our
object is to advocate and support to the extent of our
ability, the doctrines professed and practised by the
Unon Party of our State, believing them to be essen
tial tothe preservation of our existence ns a nation,
and the perpetuation of our happiness as a people.
These we believe to be generally known and under- h
stood by the citizens of our State, and indeed the pto
pet lim it of a piospectus w ould preclude their being
examined and explained in detail. We are fully aware
that professions made and not practised are wors
than futile. If we should be found tergiversating in
our course, we are of consequence amenable to our
patrons and readers, and by th<m, we ere willing to
be judged.
Portions of the paper will be devoted to miscellane
ous matter, distinct from political, embracing tfiaJ
which will be thought in<<st uselul and interesting. -
The Editor pledges himself to use evety exertion to
make bis paper as respectable and interesting as lie»
in his power.
The Southern Spy will be published on a Royal
sheet with new type and press, ai two dollars and titty
cents in advance, or three dollats at the end of the a
year The first number will be issued about the 25th*
of this month.

A WEEKLY PAPER PUBLISHED IN DARIEN
AT THREE DOLLARS PER ANXU3I,
BY NATHANIEL M. CAULDER.
"feUR first year has nearly closed, and ns yet, wo
H F have never come before the public, with a re
gular prospectus. Our views it is true, have been
briefly set forth in the first number of our [taper, bu
its circulation, at ttiat early period was of course, ve
. ry limited, and they could not be, very widely dissemr
inated. Under these circumstances, presenting out
Prospectus, it is but right that we should, in as few
words as practicable, reiterate them. Our Country,
our Stale, and our Home, have an equal claim, and |
their several and united interest, it shall ever be our
aim to promote.
The general politics of our be,lovcu country, shall
occasionally occupy our columns, but as Editors, we,
disclaim all political party connections. A strict and
undeviating neutrality, shall always characterize our J
waitings, for reasons w hich are good, and Biibstanlittl.
Our patrons and friends are found among these of
both parties, and it is at their suggestion, we consent
to pursue this course, for the establishment of ihepu
per ia desired by all, and could not be sustained ex
cept by a Union of both. Thus then, we are engaged
and to our friends of both parties, to our patrons, and .
to the public---we pledge our best, and tnost imreniit.
ted exertions, to render ours, a useful, entertainng
and interesting paper. -*
