A WEEKLY JYEIL SPAPEII published in Washing*
ton, Wilkes ( ounty, Georgia, to to Politics Jjff'
Literature, &c.
IT has so long been the custom of persona announ
cing their design to establish a Press, to issue a
Prospectus containing the principles which they in
tend to maintain, that a departure in the present in
stance would hardly be pardoned. Th« people hate
unquestionably the right to be informed, what path
we design to tratel, and to judge first of its propriety, V
and aiterwards if theie should be a deviation from the
same- We would thereto e. briefly slate, that our
object is to advocate and support lo the extent ot cur
ability, the doctrines professed and practised by the
Unon Party of our Stakf, believing them to be essen-
I tial tothe preservation of our existcnceasa nation,
i and the perpetuation of our happiness as a people.
I These we believe to be generally known and under-
I stood by the citizens of our State, and indeed the pto-
I pet limit of a piospectus would preclude their being
examined and explained in detail. Me ate fully aware
that professions made and not practised are wore
than futile. If we should be found teigiversating in
‘our course, we are of consequence amenable to our
patrons and readers, and by them, we are willinglo
be judged.
Portions of the paper will be devoted to miscellane
ous matter, distinct from political, embracing that
which will be thought most useful and inteiesting.
The Editor pledges himself to use every exertion to
make his paper as respectable and interesting as lies
in bis power. ■ *
! The Southern Spy will be published on a Royal
sheet w ith new type and press, at two dollars and fitly
cents in advance, or three dollais at the end of the
year The first number will be issued about the 2Clh

briefly set forth in the first number of oar paper, bu-
- its circulation, at mat early period was of course, ve
- ry limited, and they could not be very widely dissemr
2 mated. Under these circumstances, presenting out
- Prospectus, it is but right that we should, in as few
words as practicable, reiterate them. Our Country,
- our State, and our Home, have an equal claim, and-w
s their several find united interest, it sbull ever be otir .

The grneral politics of our beloved country, shall k
occasionally occupy our columns, but as Editors, we,
disclaim all political party connections.' A strict and
imdeviating neutrality, shall always characterize our
