Wednesday was a lively day.
The candidates ' and their friends
were on the field early And worked
with a will.
The figures elswhere show liow close
it was for the principal officers, and
hence the incentive for hard work.
The uncertain quantity,' was thtj
colored'vote, and the brother in black
was hi demand on all sides when lie
made his appearance. It was amusing
to see some of them puff free cigars I
and hurrah for t heir favorites.
Once in a while we heard a banter
for a bet but know of none that camel
to a head.
In the afternoon an occasional mes
senger would arrive from a country
precinct, and his report would elicit a
yell.
I It was truly exciting when John M.
James and others came sailing in from
Salt Springs with the lull count—giv
ing Buyer, l’atmau ; and Ward big
majorities,
\Wnen the polls dosed and the count
began the court house was crowded
with anxious listeners. The voting
had been so close between the candi
dates, for the main offices; that it
required the official returns to deter
mine some of them. -But all were
generally considered settled when the
court house count was concluded
