Strickland of this city, one of the pioneer settlers of the county died. He had been a sufferer from paraly sis, for mahy months and his death was not unexpected. The d/ath of Mr. Strickland re moves one of the oldest citizens of the county. He was bom in July 1824, and has lived continu ously since that time in this section. When the movement was first inaug urated to have the county of Doug las made, he was one of the promo ters and it was greatly due to his ef forts that the bounty was formed. When the agitation concerning the location of the county site wag at fe ver hiat, lie rendered valuable: assis tance in having the question amica bly arranged. Myr- ick, assisted; by the Masons, conduct ed the exercises, After-*these servi-' ces were conclnded, the Masons took charge of the body and it was carried to the city cemetery where the servi ces were concluded by the fraternity. Trenthain, one 1 of the most prominent citizens of Campbell county has beep bound over by Uni ted States Commissioner Broyles on the charge of making illicit whiskey. Coroner Schlapback has entered suit against Floyd county for the re covery of fees for holding two in quests recently. The county com missioners refused to pay Schlapbacks bills, claiming that the inquests were not authorized by law, as there were witnesses to cue death of both parties.
