Richmond, Oct. 15.—A report is current here on the authority of a gentleman justfrom Balti more. '.hat the Clipper of that city, on Saturday last, published a dispatch that Gen Price had obtained a signal, victory over Fremont in a bat tle in Missouri. Passengers from M nasaas this afternoon re port quite a stir at Fairfax last night, in conse quence of the withdrawal of our troops towards Centreville and Manassas. The trains were running hourly all night, transporting troops and stores to Manassas. Heavy firing was heard this morning for more than half an hour, in the direction of Fairfax, before the train left for this place. Events are opening. Passengers from West Point report heavy firing this morni g in the neighborhood of York town. An engagement has been anticipated there for several days because of the appear ance of the federal fleet off Yorktown. Important from Kentucky. We are perm tted to make the following ex tract from a private letter, dated at Clarksville, Tennessee. 14th inst. It is entirely reliable. -•There are a good many troops moving here, All Gen Hardee’s command is being t: ansferred from Columbus to Bowling Green-aboutlO.OflO- Nashviu.e. Oct. 14 - The Missouri Republi can of the 10th reports that McCullough was at Jamestown with 1 rice's army, which was march ing on Sedalia, where Siegel has 27.099. Price's army is increasing, and not retreating. Specials from Washington, to the 9th say'that the Fremont and Blair imbroglio is in statu quo. Blair is still under arrest. The Potomac River had greatly swollen, pre venting passing. Reconnoisstnces report the rebels at least 100,000 strong, occupying their former position. Gen. Smith had advanced from the Chain Bridge to occupy Lewinsville. Financial and Commercial Conven'ion. Macon. Oct. 16.—'1 he Convention this morning adopted unanimously and with great enthusiasm a resolution reoomim-n ling Congress to suspend the collection of import duties, and to throw our po'rts open to 1 ree Trade for all nations who mainta n peace with us. Some slight modifications and additions were made to the action of yesterday upon the sub ject of cotton advances. A resolution was adopted requesting Con gress to altar and adjust coins, weights and measures to a descimal system. A series oi resolutions were adopted upon the Sequestration Act. recommending that no pay ment of debts sequestrated be regarded during the war ; that claims for indemnity end indebt edness due by the North, be allowed as a set off; that the courts be empowered-, in certain cases to modify the retroactive effect of the bill ; that the property of Northern lesidents living under disabilities of coverture er infamy be exempted.
