Tips on growing pears in Georgia Pear season is here and it is this time of year when pear growers begin thinking about what they should have done for their pear trees dur ing to ensure a successful pear crop. It’s too late now, of course, but there’s always next year. Pears are grown all over Georgia, but on a relatively small scale. Due to the prev alence of fire blight, a major disease of pears, in the humid eastern and southern states, most of the pear production is centered in the drier areas of the Pacific Northwest. He died from Lupus when I was 13. At the time, Lupus was a relatively new disease and usually only affected women, but some how my granddaddy suffered from it. He was sick for years. I remember my mama and aunts taking turns caring for him at the hos pital.
