grand scale, and is especially good as a guilt-produc
ing mother and instant hypochondriac.
The two in tandem provide great comedy, while
Andy Payne suffers through their battles, struggles
to keep the production going and gets caught in the
middle repeatedly. Payne is wonderful as an over
whelmed straight man, with a role that takes on
depth and complexity as the plot proceeds.
Patrick Goodman is a master of the teenage shrug
and silent indifference as the drama unfolds, and
when he finally speaks up toward the end of the play,
it’s good theatre.
Joy Goodman, the director, clearly has gotten maxi
mum fun out of this comedy and chose her cast well.
“The Kitchen Witches,” which was written by
Caroline Smith and produced by Paula Romans,
opened Friday night. This weekend’s performances
are tonight at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Further show dates are on Sept. 12, 13, 14 and 15 at
8 p.m.
Tickets are sl2 for adults, $6 for students.
Reservations can be made by calling 287-5354.
The Perry Players Theatre is at 909 Main Street in
downtown Perry.
