Treatment for leukemia does exist, but the treatment depends on both the type of leukemia and when the leukemia is diagnosed. Treatment of leukemia usually involves chemotherapy and possibly radiation treatments. Chemotherapy attempts to destroy the cancer cells by traveling through the body, destroying both targeted cancer cells and even those not targeted. Taken orally, intravenously or even injected into a muscle, chemotherapy can be a long process and one that leaves patients feeling exhausted after each session. A standard treatment for many forms of cancer, radiation therapy involves the use of X-rays to destroy cancer cells. Sometimes, radiation therapy is used in combination with chemotherapy.
