HOSPICE MYTHS ft FACTS...
Myth #1: Hospice is a place.
Fact #1: Hospice care usually takes
place in the comfort of your home, but
can be provided in any environment in
which you live, including nursing homes,
assisted living facilities, and residential
care facilities.
Myth #2: Hospice means that the
patient will soon die?
Fact #2: Receiving hospice care does
not mean giving up hope or that death
if imminent. The earlier an individual
receives hospice care, the more
opportunity there is to stabilize your
medical condition and address other
needs. Some patients actually improve
and may be discharged from hospice
care.
Myth #3: Families have to pay for
hospice care.
Fact #3: Hospice care is an approved
Medicare and Medicaid benefit. Most
private insurers also cover hospice care
as well. And, through its charity care
policies, Hospice of Houston County
is committed to caring for all patients,
regardless of an individual’s ability to
pay.

cataract surgery, i.e. macular
degeneration, diabetic changes and
amblyopia (lazy eye). Millions of cataract
surgeries are performed every year and in
a majority of cases a significant amount
of vision is restored. Complications are
unusual and most patients are extremely
satisfied with the outcome of surgery.
At Eyesight Associates, every effort
is made throughout the pre-operative
exam and the surgical process to help
you achieve the best possible results.

own doctor.
Fact #4: Patients may keep their own
physician, who will work closely with
Hospice of Houston County’s Medical
Director to plan and carry out care.
These physicians work together as a
team to oversee the best care possible
for the patient.
