PUBLIC NOTICE
FOR THE
DRAFT FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
FOR THE TERMINATION OF LEASE AT 44 GREEN STREET OFFICE SPACE
Robins Air Force Base (AFB) announces the availability for public review and comment of the
Draft Final Environmental Assessment (EA) and proposed unsigned Finding of No Significant
Impact (FONSI) for the Termination of Lease at 44 Green Street Office Space.
The proposed ation consists of the termination of a lease at 44 Green Street which served as
off-base office space since 2001. This proposed action would not include changes to existing
operations at Robins AFB other than the relocation of the 160 personnel from leased off-base
office space to existing on-base office space. The proposed termination of the lease would
reduce cost by eliminating rent on a space that is no lunger needed, eliminate the need for
personnel to drive to meetings and other activities which occur at Robins AFB, and insures
that future Antiterrorism/Force Protection security guidelines are met.
No significant impacts tn the environment are anticipated.
A copy of the Draft Final EA and proposed unsigned FONSI are available for public viewing
and comment for the next 14 days in the Nola Brantley Memorial Library (also known as the
Houston County Library),.72l Watson Blvd., Warner Robins, GA, 478- 923-0128.

Special to the Journal
A horse in Houston County
tested positive for Eastern
Equine Encephalitis, accord
ing to public health officials
with the North Central
Health District. No human
cases of EEE have been
reported within the district.
EEE, commonly known as
sleeping sickness in horses,
is caused by a virus carried
by infected mosquitoes. EEE
is a type of encephalitis, a
general term meaning an
acute inflammation involv
ing parts of the brain, spi
nal cord and meninges. The
virus that causes EEE can be
transmitted to humans and
animals when they are bitten
by infected mosquitoes. The
virus is not transmitted from
animal-to-animal, animal-to

Since this is a virus, there

is a vaccine available to help
prevent the development of
EEE in horses, but there
is no vaccine available for
people.
The first symptoms of
EEE are high fever (103° to
106°F), stiff neck, headache
and lack of energy. These
symptoms show two to 10
days after infection. Swelling
of the brain, called encepha
litis, is the most dangerous
symptom. The disease pro
gresses quickly.
Dr. Joseph Swartwout,
District Health Director
urges residents to take all
possible measures to pre
vent mosquito bites. “The
best ways to prevent bites
are getting rid of standing
water in your yard in which
mosquitoes can breed, wear
ing appropriate clothing and
wearing insect repellant.”
A repellant containing
DEET® should be used
