The deadline is drawing
near. The Joanna McAfee
Childhood Cancer Foundation
is just 100 orders short of
reaching the goal of 1,000
orders of the “Joanna tags.”
Jeff McAfee, Joanna’s
father, is making a special
plea now.
“We have had an incredible
response to our request for
help securing the remaining
reservations,” he wrote in a
recent message to supporters
of the foundation, “but we
need one last push!”
McAfee said that due to
state policy, if the remaining
100 reservations for the tags
are not made by the end of
this month, the tag will not
be manufactured until 2008.
The tags can be reserved at
the tax office at the Houston
County Courthouse, or the
order can be downloaded and
mailed in, with a $25 check.
Whether you place the
order in person, or mail
the order in, the tag will be
reserved and you will receive
a receipt from the state in

“By getting into the sys

“indigent patients can avoid

Even more importantly,
they can improve their basic

Agency warns your Do Not Call may have expired
Special to the Journal
The Georgia Department of Human
Resources, Division of Aging Services,
according to a release, is warning
Georgians that their telephone num
ber registration on the Do Not Call
Registry may have expired.
The registration was for five years,
the release reads, and individuals who
registered their telephone numbers on
the Do Not Call Registry in 2002 are
urged to renew their registrations.
“Many frauds and scams are perpe
trated through the telephone by con
artists,” said Maria Greene, Director
of DAS. “One way to eliminate this vul
nerability is to stop their point of entry
and register your phone numbers.”

created in 2002, many Americans reg
istered their telephone numbers to
prohibit telemarketers from calling
their home numbers, but many have
forgotten that the initial registration
was only to last five years. It is vitally
important to register important tele
phone numbers again. Up to three
phone numbers can be registered
(including cell phones), by visiting
www.donotcall. This registration will
last another five years ending in 2012.
Individuals with new telephone
numbers or who never got around to
registering their telephone numbers in
2002 should do so now.
If people have older relatives who
are receiving numerous telemarketing
calls, this may be a way to help them
eliminate some of those calls. DAS is
