CJ| * RNina Garcia is best known for her candid commentary on the catwalks of Project Runway, but she takes a gentler approach in her new book. The Little Black Book of Style, out this month. 'lt's like Style 101' Garcia, the fashion director at Elle maga zine, tells us.'A lot of people come up to me with fashion questions, and I feel like I have all these recipes in my head. I wanted to answer all the questions." So she boiled all her recipes down to 10 basic rules for fashionable women, and she added tips from big names such as Ralph Lauren and Diane Von Fur stenberg. She is 61 now and as easy to talk to as a longtime girlfriend. Ronstadt's music has reflected all the influences and passions of her life, among them children (with lullabies) and Mexico (with folk songs). This week she'll reconnect with the latter at the International Mariachi Festival in San Jose, Calif., headlining Saturday night with Los Lobos. She's equally interested in the mariachi workshops going on this week because it's a passing on of the culture, she says, and that must be done “person to person, hand to hand, mono a mano."
