James Fred White
HOUSTON COUNTY -
James Fred White, 76, of Perry,
passed away Tuesday, Sept.
18, 2007. The family greeted
friends Thursday at Watson-
Hunt Funeral Home in Perry.
Graveside services were held
at Perry Memorial Gar<|ens,
Friday.
Mr. White, son of the late
John W. and Sarah Alice Parrish
White, was born Sept. 24, 1930
in Alamo, Georgia and resided
in Houston County for the past
38 years. He served as a mem
ber of The Old Guard, one of
the United States Army's oldest
and most respected units dat
ing back to 1784 with the awe
some responsibility of guarding
the Tomb of the Unknowns at
Arlington National Cemetery.
Mr. White was awarded cer
tificates for his high degree of
leadership and ability and for his
qualities of leadership of preci
sion drill. Following his military
service, Mr. White worked for sev
eral excellent companies includ
ing the McGee Carpet Company
and the Bibb Company, from
which he retired.
Mr. White is preceded in death
by his wife of 42 years, Eva
Bennett White and four broth
ers, Don, Robert, Carl, Junior,
and four sisters, Ruth, Pauline,
Ruby and Gerry; and is survived
by his four children and spous
es; Sara and Dennis Webb of
McDonough, Jimmy White, Gary
and Wanda White, and Keith
and Laura White all of Perry;
two brothers and sister-in-laws
Bobby and Marlene White of
Greeneville, Tenn., and Wendell
and Bea White of Alamo; and
nine grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren.

American Cancer Society.

Gwen Thames Shafer
HENDERSON - Gwen
Thames Shafer, 43, died at her
residence on Monday, Sept.
17, 2007. Funeral services
were held Wednesday, Sept.
19, 2007, at Henderson Baptist
Church. Interment followed at
the church cemetery. In lieu
of flowers, the family requests
contributions to The Shafer Girls
Education Fund at Security Bank
Man gets 20 - 14 to serve

Gerry Scott Holloway, 48, from Warner
Robins, pleaded guilty to burglary Thursday.
Subsequently, he was, according to a
release, sentenced by the Honorable Judge
Katherine K. Lumsden in the Superior Court
of Houston County to 20 to serve 14 years in
prison without the possibility of parole.
Holloway was represented by Claudia
Meier of the Public DefendeV’s office. He was
prosecuted by the office of District Attorney
Kelly R. Burke.
Holloway, according to the release, has
a criminal record dating back to the late
19705, and by his own admission is addicted
to drugs. Under Georgia Law, defendants
with three prior felony convictions can be
sentenced to serve their time without parole.

dent of Houston County, was a
1982 Graduate of the Westfield
Schools and a member of the
Perry Saddle Club. She was
employed by Robins Federal
Credit Union from 1982-2005,
and she was a member of the
Henderson Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband,
Larry L. Shafer of Henderson;
daughters, Ashley and Emily
Shafer, both of Henderson; step
son, Justin Shafer of Savannah;
parents, Linda (Com) and
Douglas Thames of Henderson;
sisters, Susan Thames Newton
(Ross) of Dalton and Nancy
Thames Bishop (Todd) of Dublin;
nieces, Abby Maddox of Dalton,

Jeff David Knighton
PERRY - Jeff David "J.D.”
Knighton, age 48, passed away
on Monday, Sept. 17, 2007.
Graveside services were held
Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at
Crown Hill Cemetery in Albany.

received friends at the Walker
home at 1905 Northside Road
in Perry.
Mr. Knighton, son of Julia
Allen Knighton and the late J.
O. Knighton, had lived in Perry
for the last four years. He was a
graduate of Albany High School
and Albany Technical College.
A member of Sherwood Baptist
Church, he was a master pipe fit
ter for 25 years and an excellent
watqr skrer.. y 1
A collector’c? l.’.dian artifacts,
he was a great handyman who
made and hung swings. Jeff had
a very tender heart and a great
love of family and friends. He will
be missed.
Survivors include his mother,
Julia Allen Knighton; sisters,
Janice Walker (Larry), and Jeline
Knighton; and brother, Joe Allen
Knighton; and 13 nieces and
nephews.
He was predeceased by his
father, J. O. Knighton.

Alfred Clark
WARNER ROBINS - Alfred
Clark, 81, passed away Tuesday.
His son Michael Clark, and five
brothers preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Rose
Holloway had at least 12 prior felony convic
tions including many for theft and burglary
in counties all over Georgia. In 2006, he was
convicted of burglary in Fulton County. He
was on probation for that offense when he
burglarized a house in Bonaire.
“Over and over again, this Defendant has
gone into victim’s homes and taken their
property to support his addiction, ” said Burke.
“And over and over again, this Defendant has
been given an opportunity in D.A. offices
around Georgia to wake up and stop preying
on his fellow citizens. The Court’s sentence
serves justice and is a warning about what
can happen to career criminals when they
decide to do their crime in Houston County.”
He is currently being held at the Houston
County Detention Center awaiting transport
by the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Insko, 89, passed away Monday.

Barbara Anne Ryan Jackson
PERRY - Barbara Anne Ryan
Jackson, 66, passed away
Tuesday. Graveside funeral
services were held Friday in
Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Survivors include her sons:
Curtis (Kimberly) Jackson of
Stockbridge and Daniel Jackson
of Perry; mother Pauline Marie
Ryan DePriest of Johnstown,
Pa., three grandchildren and two
great grandchildren.
Sally Ann Wackford
OXFORD, N.Y. - Sally Ann
Wackford, 68, of Oxford, NY,
passed away Sept. 12 at her
home. She was born in May
of 1939 in Greene, N.Y., the
daughter of Russell and Eleanor
Peterson Sampson.
Sally is survived by her com
panion, Zeke Sickler of Oxford;
her children, Ron (Dianne)
Street of Warner Robins, Cynthia
(Richard) Hansen, Megan Eddy,
Kirsten Clement, Dale R. (Lael)
Wackford; her 12 grandchildren
and seven great grandchildren.

Charles M. Hurst
PERRY - Charles M. Hurst,
85, died at Serenity Gate on
Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22
at The Way Baptist Church at
1964 Marshallville Road, Perry.
Interment will take place at
Riverside Cemetery in Spencer,
Indiana.
The family suggests contribu
tions to The Way Baptist Church
in Perry.
Mr. Hurst had lived in Perry for
the past four years moving from
North Port, Fla., and had lived
most of his life in Valparaiso,
Indiana. He was a retired man
ager of the Petroleum Division of
the Farm Bureau Co-op and was
a member of The Way Baptist
Church.
Survivors include his daugh
ter, Vera Ellen Bell of West Palm
Beach, Fla.; grandchildren,
Valerie Aaron of Marshallville
and Todd Bell of West Palm
Beach, Fla.; great grandchild,
Amanda Rose Aarcn.
