On senior Catherine
Goodman’s ace, Houston
County High scored a
resounding third-game vic
tory in the final match of
the 2007 County Volleyball
Championships held
Saturday at the Bear Den.
The Lady Bears and Warner
Robins High played two
tight, tension filled games to
a 1-1 draw before Houston
County claimed the county
trophy for the second year in
a row 25-9.
Athina Smick was on serve
in the third game when the
Bears took control. Smick
had two aces in her string of
service winners, and Houston
stood in front 10-4. While the
errors started to mount up
on the Demonettes, Devon
Preston’s authoritative kill
put the hosts ahead 13-5.
Not only did Goodman
serve for the final point of
the tournament, she made
two blocks at the middle of
the net for Houston County
scores. Leah Justin added
one more kill that hit in the
center of Warner Robins’
side of the court.
The Bears held on to an
early lead in the first game
of this deciding match, but
wasn’t able to do so in the
second game. Smick was
again strong on the serve

Catherine Causey of
Warner Robins hit two solid
