Celebrities Pledge to Wear Pink, End
Breast Cancer ForeM
Passionately Pink for the Cure™ Kicks Off October 1; Join the Breast Cancer
Movement by Wearing Pink In October
Celebrities ranging from TV stars to sports heroes are joining together to increase aware
ness of breast cancer, a disease that without a cure could kill 10 million women in the next
25 years. And you can join them.
The celebrities have pledged to make a difference in the war on breast cancer simply
by wearing pink. Each has joined Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the leader in the global
breast cancer movement, to go Passionately Pink for the CureTM during October, National
Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“Bringing attention to breast cancer, the number one health concern for women, can truly
impact the lives of tens of thousands of women globally,” said Rene Syler, chief passionista
of the Passionately Pink for the Cure Celebrity Board. “Giving back to the community is
extremely important to me as a daughter, wife and mother who has been personally af
fected by this devastating disease. I urge everyone to participate in Passionately Pink for
the Cure and join the breast cancer movement.”
More than one million individuals are expected to participate in the program
The Passionately Pink for the Cure program encourages companies, schools, religious
and social organizations as well as individuals across the country to pick any day in Oc
tober to wear pink and make at least a $5 contribution to Komen for the Cure. More than
one million individuals are expected to participate in the program which raises funds to
support Komen in discovering and delivering the cures for breast cancer. Simply put, “Pick
Your Pink. Play Your Part. End Breast Cancer.”
How to participate in the program
Participants can create or join a team and establish a Passionately Pink for the Cure day.
To go “Passionately Pink,” teams can be creative, zany or out of the box by hosting pink
parties, pink bake sales or pink fashion shows, for example. Upon registration at www.pas
sionatelypink.org, team captains receive activation kits with details about the program,
specially designed pins and creative ways to make the day extra special.
People can join their favorite celebrity’s team by visiting www.passionatelypink.org.
Proceeds from Passionately Pink for the Cure will support breast cancer re
search programs
Net proceeds from Passionately Pink for the Cure go directly to Susan G. Komen for the
Cure with 75 percent supporting breast cancer research programs and 25 percent sup
porting community-based education, screening and treatment programs funded by Komen
Affiliates across the country. For 25 years, Susan G. Komen for the Cure s grassroots ac
tivism and research grants have played a critical role in every major advance in the fight
against breast cancer.
