Westfield celebrates Alumni Weekend with awards and barbecue

Sept. 21, Westfield host
ed a family barbeque for all
alumni who returned to cam
pus for the school’s annual
Alumni Weekend. Hosted
by the Alumni Association,
and catered by Scott Free,
the event, according to a
release, drew more than
100 guests back to campus.
Another highlight of the cel
ebration was the presenta
tion of three awards to indi
viduals for their significant
contributions to the school:
the Heritage Award, the
Headmasters Award, and the
Alumni Award.
Heritage Award: Jim Geiger
The Westfield Board of
Trustees presented the
Heritage Award to Jim Geiger
for his contribution of leader
ship, time, and resources dur
ing the School’s early years.

Geiger served on the first
Board of Trustees and pro
posed the name Westfield
School which was adopted.
He is also a charter mem
ber of the Westfield Board of
Visitors.
Geiger’s community
involvement includes current
membership in the Kiwanis
Club for 45 years where he
served as president and was
named Man of the Year. He
was twice president of the
Perry Chamber of Commerce,
served on the Perry Re-devel
opment Commission, and
was president of Perry Club
Council. An active member of
the Perry United Methodist
Church, he has served on
the Council of Ministries, the
Education Committee, and

He has been married to
his wife, Paula, for more
than 50 years. Their family
includes two Westfield alum
ni and two current Westfield
students: their children are
Nancy and Steve Greene and
their daughter Katie; and
John and Mia Geiger and
their daughter Madeline.

McCord has been involved at
Westfield as a parent and vol
unteer for more than 24years.
She produced the Westfield
football program, which ben
efits the Booster Club and
athletic teams, for the past

for many years and served
as magazine chair this year.
This fund-raiser earns more
than $35,000 for Westfield
annually. McCord is also an
active room parent and fre
quent substitute teacher.
McCord owns a busy cater
ing business and serves as
the financial secretary for the
Peach County Chamber of
Commerce. She is a member
of the Perry United Methodist
Church where she has served
as president of her Sunday
School class and sung in the
choir. She also served on the
Westfield*Beechwood*Baker
Alumni Association in the
early nineties.
She and husband Tim, both

Moreland, according to
the release, has been a valu
able member of the Alumni
Association where he served
a three- year term, and an
additional term to fill a vacan
cy. His involvement with

Alumni Weekend, the senior
luncheon, and the Alumni
basketball games.
Moreland is very active in
the Westfield Booster Club.
During any sporting event he
can be found working in the
concessions or grilling for the
teams. “Gene is a ‘hands-on’
volunteer whose enthusiasm
is as infectious as his laugh,”
the release reads.
He is a member of the
First Baptist Church of Perry
where he has taught Sunday
School for 8 years. Gene
and his wife Melanie are the
devoted parents to Ashley,
a Westfield sophomore and
Tyler who is in the sixth
grade at Westfield.
