For the first time, the group will have a food booth at the fair. They will be selling grilled, smoked pork chop sandwiches, sweet tea, soft drinks and water. Proceeds from the booth will benefit FFA activities which include scholarships, the local hog show and various cattle shows throughout the year. According to their advisor, Phil Gentry, the Perry FFA has 48 entries in the Jr. Beef Show, seven entries in the Junior Dairy Show, 10 entries in the Junior Hog Show and many entries in the FFA Youth Exhibit Hall in Heritage Hall. At least the closets don’t smell like one did a few years ago. Ev6ry time I walked down the hallway in our house, there was a strange odor. Over the next few weeks, it was not only a strange odor, it was really foul. I finally knew that I had to investigate even though I really didn’t want to know what I would find. I started in the hall closet that held all of Kerry’s and the boys’ hunting gear. When I opened the door the odor hit me like a Mack truck and almost knocked me down. I held my nose and plowed on in, though. In the very back of the closet was a can vas “bird bag”. You know, where they put the dead birds when they are hunting. Only someone forgot to empty the bird bag before tossing it into the closet. It took several weeks and several cans of air freshener before the smell the head forms so rapid ly, the roots are unable to pump minerals fast enough to keep up with the expan sion going on aboveground. When scientists researching the cabbage deprived plants of nitrogen during this third stage, small heads resulted even though plenty of nitro gen was given during the actual heading stage. Before my brother in-law was married he lived in an old house. He and his roommate had a cat. The cat disappeared and they couldn’t find it anywhere. After sev eral days they noticed that their kitchen smelled really bad. They searched every where for the offending smell and finally found the culprit in one of the kitchen cabi nets. The cat had crawled in the cabinet to die and since the guys didn’t do a great deal of cooking, they didn’t discover his body until the smell just got too bad for them to ignore. I only hope that when the boys are old enough to get their own places that they will take a head count every night before going to bed to make sure that all living things that reside with them are accounted for.
