Wednesday-Friday, October 10-12, 2007 This week in HHJ history: 30 years ago: Georgia farmers - including a group locally - plan a state-wide strike unless their demands for “100 percent parity” are not met. The strike idea originated nationally in Colorado, with Georgia being just one of 44 states in the mix. Also, the City of Perry is dismissed as a defendant in a false arrest suit. The suit orginates when a local man is arrested for selling marijuana but is later released and charges dropped when it’s discovered he’s not the one police were after. 20 years ago: Candidates for Houston County Tax Commissioner “beef up" their campaigns as the voting date closes to within a week. Perhaps you’ll remember these names from Perry Elementary School: Donte Brooks, Shedrick Tharpe, Frankie Bridges, Milisha Alford and Marissa Holmes. They are the be “standing broad-jumpers” in the first grade. 10 years ago: Officials announce that the Dixie League Youth World Series will be played in Perry. Also, local firefighters begin training on the Cairns Infrared Imaging System, which allows them to see the outline of heated objects to include victims, of course. - Compiled by Don Moncrief 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Each day the top 10 scores will be posted, and on Sunday, the top 10 from each day will compete in an even tougher test for a chance to win the car. Shortly after I pulled over to the shoulder, a young couple from Warner Robins named Greg and Maggie stopped and offered assistance. Greg got the air dam off my car and told me he thought it was salvageable.
