That argument would come from those who won said close games against Valdosta. Warner Robins High was one of those schools; the Demons won 21-17 at Valdosta last year. “I don’t know if they ever left,” said Warner Robins head coach Bryan Way on the question ‘ls Valdosta High football back?’ “They’ve probably won more games than anybody in the his tory of high school football. They’re feeling confident, and they’re a good team. “Not that they didn’t have a good team last year. The big difference between this year and last year is they are winning the close games. Last year they couldn’t find a way to win them. They’ve won every close game they’ve had this year. Four of their six games have come right down to the end. “They have great quick ness everywhere. That’s what concerns us more than anything, their overall team speed.” Way stated several times in 2006 that 1-AAAAA had several “good” teams but not one “great” team. He feels the same way about the 2007 campaign so far in his league. Both Warner Robins and Valdosta enter Saturday’s game at McConnell-Talbert Stadium unbeaten in the region, but MEETINGS - The Tucker Elementary School Council School Council meetings for the 2007-08 school year are as follows: Nov. 27, Jan. 22, 2008 and March 18, 2008. To beat Tift County by one point, Valdosta blocked a PAT kick with less than three minutes left in regula tion. The Wildcats also beat a team from Utah (Jordan) 23- 21 and a school from Florida (Lincoln, Tallahassee) 21-17 on a score late in that game. Tomberlin is a three-time state championship winning head coach, so for him 1-9 would not be the kind of season to which he is accus tomed. If anything, his first year with the Wildcats was one of growing as he report edly returned 10 starters back from 2006. “They played an awful lot of juniors last year,” said Way. “That means they didn’t have a lot of experi ence. When you play a lot of guys who are underclass men, they tend to make those mistakes that come with the territory. They aren’t mak ing many of those mistakes now. “Offensively their quar terback (Michael Turner) makes plays with his feet, scrambles around a lot, buys himself some time and throws the ball. They’ve run the ball better than they could run it last year. The offensive line isn’t overly big but very quick. They’re very balanced on offense. “Defensively they have tremendous quickness everywhere ... good size, but not huge. But they have out standing team speed and are aggressive.” For Warner Robins, things All meetings will be held at 4 p.m. in room 178. The meetings are: Jan. 31, 2008, March 27, 2008 and May 29, 2008. The Demons sit at 2-3 after an 0-3 start, and after just 10 points in the first two games they’ve racked up 82 in the previous two contests. Last week was the team’s bye week. “We’ve had some people who have been banged Up and got a chance to rest them,” said Way. “At the same time we concentrated a lot on fundamentals and improving ourselves. I don’t think anyone’s real crazy about an off week, but it came at a good time for us. “We’re not where we want to be, that’s for sure. I see a few similarities (to last year). We have a long way to go. We have five tough games left, and I told the kids we’re capable of winning all five of them. “By the same token, those teams we’re playing are all capable of beating us. It’s going to come down to how well we execute.” Execution has improved greatly for the Demon offense, which had just one touchdown during the three game losing skid. Players like Rashad Wynes are final ly establishing themselves in the backfield as Wynes had three touchdowns in the 35-14 win two weeks ago against Houston County High. Jonathan Jackson also had a big run of 63 yards in that game. “We’re playing a lot of offensive backs,” said Way. “They’re all getting better the more reps they get. Rashad may get a few more accolades because he’s scored some touchdowns, but if you look at total yards it’s pretty even among our three backs. We feel good about the improvement they’ve made and hope they continue to get better.” Some of Warner Robins’ injury problems have been on the offensive line, but that’s a unit that also contin ues to work and progress. “When you get good block ing, you tend to make some runs,” said Way. “I haven’t coached many running backs who could make yards with out blocking. They go hand in hand.” What’s been characteriz ing the Demon defense so far has been the interception. It was a pick by Jordan Sanders that got a touchdown in the overtime loss to Central Gwinnett, while Shawn Monos, who also intercept DONATE TO GOODWILL. ♦ 2209 Moody Road ♦ 115 Margie Drive i ♦ 1355 Sam Nunn Bivd J ♦ Galleria Mall - 2922 Watson Blvd M www.goodwillworks.org M Building lives, families, and communities' County High School has scheduled its School Council meetings for the 2007- OS school year.
