Mjy a f : 6A ♦ SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2007 ‘I never knew you’ - God Comedian Jerry Clower spun this hilarious tale concerning Marcel Ledbetter’s Moving Company. Marcel and his hired hand, .lames Lewis, began moving furniture from a house and loading it onto a moving van. A prob lem surfaced when they couldn’t bring a piano down the stairs. So Marcel devised an ingenious plan. He nailed a 4 x '6 board to the roof of the house and bolted Billy Powell Columnist to it a block and tackle pulley. He tied ! he pulley rope to the piano. Lewis was instructed to slowly edge the piano out the window. Marcel stood on the ground holding the rope so he could ease the piano slowly to the ground. When Lewis finally cleared the window ledge with the piano, its weight suddenly jerked Marcel skyward, smashing his head against the pulley at the roof. When the piano crashed to the ground, Marcel plunged just as quick ly back to earth, hitting the ground so hard, it knocked him unconscious. Lewis, standing inside the second floor window, saw Marcel pass him twice, first when Marcel hit his head on the pulley, and secondly when Marcel descended back to earth. James Lewis rushed to see if Marcel was hurt. Attempting to arouse Marcel, Lewis shouted, “Marcel, Marcel, wake up Marcel ... speak to me Marcel.” As Marcel’s eyes squinted open, he shot back at Lewis, “Why should I speak to you, I passed you twice, and you haven’t spoken once.” How often does God speak to our hearts, and we tune him out? We do so at our own peril, because when we seek God’s help in times of trouble, He may be unwilling to listen to our pleas. came along. This claim of being the good-looking member of the family is not the only way my brother has of generating smiles. He is just a great guy (Ouch!) with a good heart. Much could be said but 1 am going to narrow examples down to a particular event that occurred in the year of 1981. He will remember the event but I’ll bet my memo ry has his beat with the year. (Having it documented does help!) Family members gathered at Lake Sinclair for an out ing. We are all a bunch of fun-loving characters, so it took no persuasion to get Mr. Handsome, himself, to carry through with a special District when Bonaire United Methodist Church celebrated its Centennial, and delivered the message at that service. A potluck luncheon will follow the worship service. Dining accommodations will he available the fellow ship hull and outside. White Diamond Bur-B-Q is on the menu, along with the cov ered dish items. In addition to worship, food and fellowship, the chil dren will enjoy special inflat able games on the church grounds. Jesus declared, “For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. Then the cold hearted will say, “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?” Then Jesus will reply, “Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.” Then will fall from Jesus’ lips this chilling verdict: “I never knew you. Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” Just as a criminal needs a lawyer when he appears before a judge, we as sinners need Jesus’ advocacy when we appear before God’s final judgment. Since Jesus is the only mediator between God and man, it is He who must, plead our case before Almighty God, and it is He alone who can cover our sins with His precious blood.
