Harold Searcy Brown
BUTLER - Harold Searcy
“Buddy” Brown, 74, died Oct. 15 at
the Hospice of Columbus. He was
born May 14, 1933, in Howard,
Georgia, to the late Joe Stanford
and Mable Searcy Brown. He
graduated from Gordon Military
College in Barnesville, Georgia,
and after attending Vanderbilt
University, graduated from The
University of Georgia with a bach
elor of science in education in
1955. He worked at the Citizens
and Southern National Bank
in Atlanta and then as a bank
examiner for the Georgia Banking
Department. He returned to
Howard in 1965 to join his father
in the Howard Sand Company
and Butler Sand Company.
For many years, he was a
member of the board of directors
of the BB&T Bank (formerly the
Citizens State Bank) in Butler,
Georgia. For 20 years, he served
as a member of the Taylor County
Board of Education.
Buddy joined the Howard
United Methodist Church in 1942
and remained a devoted member
all his life. He served the church in
many ways, including as a youth
Sunday School teacher and in
recent years as treasurer of the
Howard Charge.
Funeral services will be at the
Howard United Methodist Church,
Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m.
with the Rev. Mark Sasser and
the Rev. Daryl Brown officiat
ing. Mike Watson, Mitch Watson,
Dan Coffee, Glenn Jones, Greg
Brown, Neil Brown, Steve Poole,
and Mike Hudson will serve as
pallbearers. Bill Dubose, Bill Doty,
Steve Brown, Bobby Parks, Kelley
Foster, Sammy Locke, Carter
Matthews, and Dale Parks are
honorary pallbearers. Buddy was
predeceased by his parents and
his sister, Marjorie Brown Dubose.
He is survived by his wife of
42 years, Sylvia Maxwell Brown,
by his daughter and son-in-law,
Mary Beth Brown and Dennis
Swearingen, his son, Stan Brown,
his granddaughters, Maggie and
Lucy Swearingen, and by his sev
eral nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requests that memorial gifts be
made to The Golden Rule, P.O.
Box 243, Butler, Georgia, 31006
and The Methodist Home for
Children and Youth of the South
Georgia Conference, P.O. Box

Alabama and died October 11,
2007 in Tampa. She was pre
ceded in death by her son, J.
Bob Humphries; brother, William
Downey; and husband, James
Rosenburg. She is survived by her
granddaughters: Lauren, Sarah,
and Leigh Ann Humphries; daugh
ter-in-law, Dr. Barbara Bachman
of Tampa; brother, Harold Downey
and wife, Vola, of Montgomery,
Alabama; and niece, Yolanda
Eisenstein and husband, Dr. Chic
Eisenstein, of Dallas, Texas. Nita
lived in Perry, Georgia and Warner
Robbins, Georgia before settling
in St. Pete Beach 30 years ago.
She worked in women's retail
clothing and modeling maintain
ing a lifelong interest in fashion.
As a kind and loving woman, she
took great joy in happy times at
St. Pete Beach with her three
adoring granddaughters as well
as loyal friends and family. She
will be greatly missed by all that
were fortunate to have known her.
Funeral services took place on
Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 in Tampa,
Fla. In lieu of flowers, contribu
tions may be made to the J. Bob
Humphries Education Foundation

away Saturday. His parents and
a brother preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Sara
Smith of Warner Robins; sons,
Johnny Smith of Warner Robins
and Randy Smith of Macon; six
grandchildren, two great-grand
children, a sister and niece.

Cramer, 79, passed away Sunday.
His parents and three brothers
preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, four

ters. Graveside services will be
held at 11 a.m. today in Perry
Memorial Gardens.

T. Cookson, 74, passed away
Monday. His mother preceded
him in death. Survivors include his
wife, daughter, son, three grand
children, a great-grandchild and a
sister. Visitation will be today from
6-8 p.m. at McCullough Funeral
Home. Services will be held at 2
p.m. Thursday at McCullough with
interment following in Magnolia
Park Cemetery.
