Candi James selected Georgia
Museum Educator of the Year

Candi James, guided
tour coordinator for the
Education Department at
the Museum of Aviation has
been chosen as the Georgia
Museum Educator of the
Year.
She officially received
the award Sept. 28 at the
Georgia Museum Educator’s
Association meeting
in Roswell and it will be
announced again at the
annual GME conference.
The Georgia Educator
of the Year, according to a
release, is a competitive and
prestigious award estab
lished to recognize educa
tors who make a substan
tial contribution to the field
of Museum education in
Georgia.
Nominees are evaluated
based on their individual
contributions to increas
ing public and professional
awareness about Museum
education, and the impact
of their institution on the
community.
James runs the museum’s
guided tour department and
is, according to the release,
also responsible for recruit
ing and training both vol
unteer and employed tour
guides.
She developed the Girl
Scout Patriotism program
and managed the Native
American Heritage pro-

Force wing is approaching
its fifth anniversary. In cel
ebration of a successful five
years the unit will be hold
ing a ceremony Friday at 9
a.m.

Director of. Education. “She
has given the program
structure by correlating her
lessons with the Georgia
Performance Standards,
and this gives the program
credibility with the school
systems looking for field
trips that are educationally
based.”

the unit has excelled dur
ing the five years follow
ing its activation. The men
and women of the wing have
received numerous awards
from all echelons of the U.S.
Air Force and Air National
Guard. During this time
the wing has received two
Air Force Outstanding Unit
Awards for meritorious ser
vice, from Oct 2002 to Aug
2004 and again from Aug
2004 to May 2006.
The success of the wing,
the release reads, is a result
of the dedication and profes
sionalism of its personnel.

The 116th ACW has main
tained high tempo opera
tions since its arrival on
the Arabian Peninsula in
January 2003 in support of
Operation Iraqi Freedom,
the first deployment for the
wing.
Airmen have logged more
than 30,000 combat flying
hours since that time in OIF
and Operation Enduring
Freedom, providing inte
gral support to ground
forces in the Global War on
Terrorism.
In addition to combat
operations the wing annu
ally supports more than 30
MAJCOM and local exer
cises.

and distributed to local tag
offices. Jeff McAfeee said
that it is expected that the
tags that have already been
ordered will be available for
pick-up at local tag offices
