held by Marc Kushinka.
“It fell apart about a mile
and a half,” said Burkhardt
about his shot at the record.
“It never came back. I ran
a pretty good race up until
then. Normally you can keep
that pace, but I couldn’t run
after that.”
Burkhardt said this is defi
nitely a course that will “kill”
runners who aren’t used to
the hills, especially the first
one at about the half-mile
mark. But it is the home
course for the Demons, and
he said he gets in the high
17s to low 18s normally.
In the 2006 county cham
pionships, Burkhardt placed
second overall to Kushinka.
“You learn how to pace
yourself and run fast,” he
said about the lessons learned
from the graduated senior.
“Since he was always ahead
of me, I could look up and
tell where I was compared
