The festi val, according to a release, has always been used to pay for the low tuition offered to military and low income families. This year there will be free concerts from Nashville Star Finalists Melanie Torres and Dustin Wilkes, local band Skeetersz, High Cotton (Atlanta folk band), David Bowers, Jr. and a free magic show by Mike Fuller, the magician. Radio Disney will be there live and will be holding contests and giving out prizes all day long. 102.5 The Bull and 895.1 will also be broadcasting live. For children 5 and over, a $lO armband gets them all day admission to many rides - such as Bungee Trampolines, Airborne Parachute, Twisting Teacups, Rock Wall, Velcro Wall, Mechanical Bull, Pedestal Joust, Jacob’s lad der and many more rides. See how fast you can kick a soccer ball or throw a base ball! For smaller children, a $5 armband gets them on any of the above-rides, plus some special rides for toddlers - such as a train, Dino slide, and more. Pony rides will also be offered for $3. There will be a paintball challenge where you can win a paintball gun. There will be free trick or treat with the sponsors - candy for kids/ goodies for adults. College football will be broadcast all day. Also, lock up a friend in “jail” and make them solic it or pay $1 “bail” - with all proceeds going to the ADVANCE (formerly DARE program). ADVANCE offi cers will also be at festival. ADVANCE, according to the release, needs the funds as it no longer gets state funding. “Don’t worry about miss ing your favorite game,” the release reads. “We will be broadcasting college football all day long on two large screens.” Mary Therese will be emceeing and accepting holiday greeting and letters for the troops - which she will carry overseas for two weeks in November. To round out Fire Safety Month, the Houston County Fire Department will have trucks and demonstrations for the kids. The festival also has more than 50 arts and crafts vendors slated, a very large rummage sale known as Granny’s Attic, Bingo, Cake Walk, and lots of Carnival games. There is a silent auction where you bid on trips, Georgia Tech Journal/Julie Evans basketball tickets, electron ics, furniture and much more - an estimated amount of 50- 100 items to bid on. Drivers, according to the release, should take notice of the speed trailer and speed cart placed in various loca tions throughout the city. Watson Boulevard, Russell Parkway and Houston Lake Road will be targeted areas during the speed enforce ment campaign, according to the release.
