Before sending the flood that destroyed all * of mankind except eight people, Noah, his wife, his three sons and their respective wives, Genesis 6: 5-6 reveals that God was displeasured with His creation: “Then the Lord saw that the wicked ness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagi nation of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continu ally. And the Lord was sorry that He created man on the earth and it grieved Him to His heart.” God had every reason to be disappointed in man. The first man and woman on earth were not the products of a womb, but were created from the dust of the earth. God gave life to Adam and Eve and placed them in an eternal paradise, yet one of their first acts was to dis obey God and be banned "Man’s evil nature came into full bloom when God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah." Out-dated but still with plenty of use Thave been young I and now am old. -LAnd in all my years I have never seen the Lord forsake a man who loves Him.” - Psalms 37:25, Living Bible. Parked in the driveway at “Cole’s Comer” is a 1952 General Motors bus, which prior to its arrival, I insisted I did not want. I do not even know what to call it. To begin with, I called it “the thing” - as in “I did NOT want “the thing!” Then, because I was not sure if it was a Greyhound or a Trailway, it was referred to as a Trailhound. We were offered the bus several times but it was far from the description of the motor home of my dreams. Each time we were contact ed, the price was reduced. That did not change my deci sion. I did NOT want “the thing.” Eventually, the price of the bus was drastically lowered. I became convinced that it had possibilities of being con verted into a motor home that would surpass anything affordable to our budget. Somewhat bewildered, I prayed, “Lord, I don’t know what we’re going to do with ‘the thing’, but if You want us to have it, I’m not going THE BANK Hy OF PERRY Please worship at the church of your choice 1006 Main St. • Perry 987-2552 Member FDIC New Life CHURCH Pnvtnr Clint Rmwn Sunda y October 21 st, 11 am 1 UMUr Kslini ufurvn Sunday October 21st, 7pm Faith World Ministries Monday October 22nd, 7pm 1^067 Pursue, Overtake, Recover All Singing by Pastor Clint Brown Illustrated Message w/Special Lighting and Effects... Man’s evil nature came into full bloom when God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. At Abraham’s pleading for God to spare the righteous in Sodom, God promised Abraham that he would not to destroy the city if 10 righ teous men could be found. God sent two angels to Sodom disguised as ordinary men to determine Sodom’s fate. While they were stay ing overnight at Lot’s house, a mob came to the house, demanding that the dis guised angels come outside so “they could know them” - to have unnatural sex with them. When the angels refused, the men attempted to break inside the house. The angels instantly struck the men with blindness and instructed Lot and his fam ily to leave the city to escape y 'i to argue about it anymore.” I had hardly said “A- Me n ” before “the thing” was parked in our yard. There is nothing fancy about “the thing” but the busmobile has served my family well since it was pur chased in October 1979. This was before my husband’s retirement. It was not quite ready for the first long haul to Fort Worth, Texas in October 1983 when we were about to become grandparents for the first time. Their offspring again brought grief to God when Cain mur- its imminent destruction. As Lot’s family fled, God rained down on Sodom and Gomorrah a torrential storm of fire and brimstone that completely leveled the cit ies and annihilated all their inhabitants. God will again destroy the earth. This time by fire. 2 Peter 3: 10 states, “The day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.” God had the choice to make man an automaton who could only obey Him and respond righteously to every circumstance or to empower man with free will to choose between right and wrong. God chose the latter, but being omniscient He knew beforehand that man would fail, so He made provision to redeem man and set him right with his maker. John 3:16 tells us how: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begot ten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” our destination ahead of the stork. Summer trips with the grandson who lives close by were traditional until he graduated from high school. Annual trips to South Texas in the old bus made it pos sible for clothing to be deliv ered for a mission project in Mexico. Lots of happy memories are stored up in the out dated model. Perhaps the most valuable memory comes from reflecting on how, after all these years, its usefulness has not been outlived. Thank God, He does not reject us because of age and mileage. I am grateful that He uses out-dated models. I have been around a few more years than the old bus I did not want. Praise The Lord, He still wants me!. Earline Cole Reflections Rerny m&mmm Friendly.
