First, Stratford decid
ed to walk her and set up
the force play. Following a
timeout, Moreland switched
from her normal southpaw
position to bat right. There
were more than a few wrin
kled brows over on the Lady
Eagles’ side of the dugout
- including a few question

Seizing on their confusion,
Culverhouse sent McLean
to third on the first pitch
following. She slid in safe
and sound. Stratford then
went through with walking
Moreland.
That in turn brought
Hanna Jones to the plate.
She sent a slow roller to
second where the fielder
hobbled it. A bobble was all
it took for Jones to reach
first safely and McLean to
scoot across with the game
winner.
That set up the matchup
with George Walton, which
had beaten the Lady Eagles
9-0 in its opener but then
fell to FPD 5-0 following.
Westfield scored first in

a title but: “It was a good
season,” said Culverhouse.
“When you can get to the
Final Four and miss out of
the championship game by
a run, it’s hard to say you
haven’t had a good season
... Especially with all the
adversity we’ve had to over
come.
“We finished strong. The
girls played well. That’s' all
you can ask for.”
