According to Chris Tho mas, Water System Director, Coli form bacteria were present in four (4) of seventy (70) water samples tested during the compliance period 9/1/2007 to 9/30/2007. The State of Georgia EPD and Federal Drinking Water standards allow no more than 5% of the samples to be Coliform positive, if 40 or more samples are submitted each month. If fewer than 40 samples are submitted each month, no more than one sample may be Coliform positive. Required Language from Federal Regulation: The United States Environ mental Protection Agency sets drinking water standards and has determined that the presence of Co liform bacteria is a possible health concern. Coliform bacteria are com mon in the environment and are generally not harmful. The presence of Coliform bacteria in drinking water is generally the result of a problem with water treatment or the pipes which distribute water. They indicate the water may be contaminated with organisms that can cause disease. Disease symptoms may include di arrhea, cramps, nausea, possible jaundice and any associated head aches and fatigue. These symptoms are not just associated with disease causing organisms in drinking water, but may also be caused by a num ber of factors other than your drink ing water. The EPA has set an en forceable drinking water standard for Coliform bacteria to reduce the risk of these adverse health effects. Un der this standard, no more than 5.0 percent of the samples collected during the month can contain Coli form bacteria, except that systems collecting fewer than 40 samples per month have one Coliform positive sample per month are not violating the standard. Drinking water which meets this standard is usually not associated with health risks from disease causing bacteria and should be consider safe. Residents need not boil their water or seek alternate water supplies. However, people with severely compromised immune systems, infants and some elderly may be at increased risk, and should seek medical advice from their health care providers. Corrective Actions: According to Chris Tho mas - Water System Director, Coli form bacteria were present in four (4) of seventy (70) water samples taken during the compliance period. The source of the contamination has been identified and corrective action taken. Residents need not boil their water or seek alternate water supplies. In response to the positive Coliform lab results, a thorough re view of existing sampling tech niques, lab test procedures and the water system was undertaken. All evidence indicates that the positive Coliform results were based on sampling collection errors and not due to any potable water quality is sues. All follow-up samples taken have been in compliance with EPA regulations. The following corrective tltO MISCELLANEOUS actions have been implemented: * Additional sterilization techniques have been added to the Bacteriological Sampling program; * Additional training for field technicians who perform the sampling has been provided to pre vent this issue from re-occurring in the future; * Sampling has been ex panded from seventy (70) monthly compliance samples to eighty one (81) compliance samples; Any questions should be directed to the contact person listed' above or additional information is available from EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline 1-800-426-4791. 55323 10/24 1120 NAME CHANGES NOTICE OF PETITION TO CHANGE NAME Notice is hereby given that Candice Leah Moye, the under signed, filed her petition to the Su perior Court of Houston County, Georgia, on the 24 day of August, 2007, praying for a change in the name of Petitioner from Candice Leah Moye to Candice Leah Gra ham.
