for women is looking for an old house to
renovate for use as a transitional home for
women released from jail.
The home will be named in honor of Jean
Rea, the founder of the Houston County
Jail/Prison Ministry and leader throughout
its history.
Rea has terminal cancer and has asked
that her efforts on behalf of women inmates
be carried on.
According to Acting Chairperson Anne
Sinyard, “In many cases when a woman
is released from jail, she has no money, no
food, no place to stay, no transportation, no
clothes and no job.
“This is one reason so many inmates
return to prison. But this ministry has
proven that many of these women can be
helped temporarily to get “over the hump”
and also taught about Jesus Christ, and
if so, many will never return to prison
again.”
The group has skilled volunteer work
ers and accumulated funds for renovating
a house, and is seeking an older home or
one in disrepair can be restored for use.
It is their hope that someone will donate
a home that will be named “The Jean Rea
House.”
Monetary or property donations will be
tax deductible, according to Sinyard, who
can be reached at 952-7169.

Satan, the origin of evil
Evil did not originate
on earth as many
believe. It actually
began in heaven. It was
instigated in the mind of
an angel. His name was
Lucifer. A very beautiful
creature he was; an arch
angel of the highest order.
Scripture refers to him as
“the morning star, the son of
the dawn.” But pride entered
Lucifer’s heart.
He wanted to become
greater than God and
to exalt himself above all
creation. ‘I will ascend to
heaven,” schemed Lucifer. “I
will raise my throne above
the stars of God.” Lucifer’s
aspirations caused a great
war in heaven. Revelation
12: 7-9 describes the battle:
“And there was war in heav
en. Michael and his angels
fought against the dragon,
and the dragon and his angels
fought back. But he was not
strong enough, and they lost
their place in heaven. The
great dragon was hurled
down - that ancient serpent
called the devil, or Satan,
"Man is inherently
evil. Ms only hope
is the saving grace
ol Jesus Christ."
Polly Punkin-Heads purpose
Lots of people at the
Farmer’s Market
had lots of pump
kins to sell. The shouts were
continuously, “How about a
pumpkin?” I continuously
shouted back, “Don’t need
one!”
Making our way down
one lane, my husband and
I passed a shed with more
pumpkins than we had seen
anywhere. “How about a
pumpkin?” a young man
shouted. “Are you giving
them away?” I shouted back.
“Yes... CATCH!” the young
man responded. Surprisingly,
he tossed a tiny pumpkin to
me. Surprisingly, I caught it
from our slow moving auto
mobile!
The pumpkin was so small,
I honestly felt sorry for it.
It would have made a cute
Jack-O-Lantern, but carving
on the little thing seemed
almost cruel. Reminded that

with Lucifer.
Satan’s first order of busi
ness on earth was to tempt
God’s first human creations.
You know the rest of the
story. Adam and Eve were
evicted from the Garden
of Eden because they dis
obeyed God and ate of the
Tree of Knowledge. Satan
then turned his attention to
subverting Job, one of the
world’s most righteous men
who feared God and con
sistently turned away from
evil.
Since Job was very rich,
Satan came before the coun
cil of God to accuse Job of
being a mercenary and an
opportunist, who would
curse God if he lost all his
possessions.
God accepted Satan’s chal
lenge to test Job and gave
Satan the power to take away
Job’s possessions, but not to
take his life. Job remained

steadfast to God and, in the
end, received double restitu
tion. His physical infirmities
were healed and he wound
up with twice as many pos
sessions as he had before.
Job is the prototype of what
God envisioned when he cre
ated man. God chose to give
man free will rather than
make him an automaton
who could only respond to
programmed instructions.
Thus, God took great pride
in his handiwork when Job,
through the exercise of free
will, remained true to his
creator.
The greatest outbreak
of evil in the 20th century
found expression in one man
- Adolf Hitler who put to
death 6 million Jews. Other
terrifying examples were
Joseph Stalin in the Soviet
Union, Pol Pot in Cambodia,
Sadam Hussein in Iraq,
etc. Manifestations of pro
found evil have been seen in
tribal genocides such as the
Hutu militia who massacred
500,000 Rwandans, many of
them innocent children. Al-
Qaeda suicide bombers kill
innocent people every day
on the streets of Iraq and
justify their atrocities under
the pretense of religion.

wore a dainty crocheted pin

body was draped with mate
rial of appropriate colors for
the season.
Standing outside my back
door, attracting attention,
Polly generated smiles from
visitors. She was the center
of attraction at a meeting
where she held a miniature
basket filled with candy.
Later, Polly was invited to
serve treats at a meeting in
the home of a friend. From
there she spent some time
at school along with other
Halloween creations.
Polly’s purpose was soon
fulfilled. If she could have
talked, I am sure she would
have said, “Thank You, God,
for giving me something to
do. It has been lots of fun”
And, perhaps she would
have added, “Let my soul
live, and it shall praise You.”
