SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2007 6A ‘Rule 5 of thumb - don’t upset Georgia Tech fans Lordy, I upset some Georgia Tech fans a couple of weeks ago by poking fun at their all night welcoming event and brand alignment hootenan ny Nov. 1. One reader told me that stu dents no longer use slide rules at Tech, as Dick Yarbrough Columnist yarb24oo@bellsouth.net I had implied. I suppose that means they’ve also given up the T-Squares they used to wear on their belts like pis tols. Another reader, after making a close examination of the picture that usually accompanies this column, 'Profile' foreign donors? But of course Asian- American groups don’t like the increased pub lic scrutiny that Hillary Clinton’s mysterious Chinese dishwasher donors are get- ting. T o which I say, in words that should be universal ly under stood: 800 hoo. In the wake of eye-open- Michelle Malkin Columnist malkin@comcast.net ing investigations by the New York Post and Los Angeles Times of more dubious for eign funny money flowing into Hill’s coffers, ethnic grievance organizations are stepping forward to condemn these stories as examples of “negligent journalism.” Yep. The newspapers are guilty of “negligence” because they actually broke news instead of covering "it up. Both uncovered dish washers, cooks and other suspect Hillary campaign contributors in New York’s Chinatown, Flushing, the Bronx and Brooklyn who were limited-income, lim ited-English-proficient and smellier than stinky tofu. One Asian donor admitted “to lacking the legal-resident status required for giving campaign money.” Another, Hsiao Wen Yang, said she was reimbursed for her SI,OOO donation - setting off clear alarm bells over yet another possible straw donor scheme on the heels of Norman Hsu gfate. The reports prompted Asian & Pacific Islander American Vote, a “national nonpartisan, nonprofit orga nization that encourages and promotes civic participation of Asian Pacific Islander Americans in the electoral and public policy processes at the national, state and local levels,” to issue a press release this week carping about the media’s “undue scrutiny on a specific ethnic subgroup.” Lisa Hasegawa, APIAVote board member, HEALTH FAIR A to the Public , Saturday, November 3, 2007 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon Place: St. Patrick Catholic Church 2410 Highway 127, Kathleen, GA Sponsor: Parish Health Ministry Volunteers Houston Health Care Complex Available: Free Blood Pressure Screening Glucose - Cost SI.OO Fasting Lipid Profile - Cost $25.00 This gives “good” (HDL) and “bad" (LDL) + Ratio + Glucose + Triglycerides Program at 11:00 AM for Males and Females “Health Bytes on Breast & Prostate Cancer” informed me that I was old and ugly. (That was a shock er. I thought I looked like Prince William.) A number of Tech athletic supporters railed about my lack of edu cation since I attended the University of Georgia (the nation’s oldest state-char tered university, located in Athens, the Classic City of the South.) That included Randy, who kept writing me and referring to me as a “moran” I sic |. He also threatened to show up at my speech to the Smyrna Rotary Club in October with his friends and heckle me. The only problem is that the speech was in October of last year. Details don’t seem to be Randy’s strong suit. ... In fairness, a number of Georgia Tech fans told me expressed her dismay over the campaign finance probes zeroing in on New York City’s Chinatown: “We are alarmed by the potential negative impact of irresponsible reporting and the harm it may have on legitimate political partici pation by members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. It is imperative that the media approach these serious alle gations with deliberation, focus and the highest lev els of journalistic integrity. As the Asian American and Pacific Islander community embraces their right to par ticipate in the civic process, it is important that the greater balance and responsibility be taken when addressing this important issue.” Translation: Lay off the Chinese dishwashers for Hillary, you racist, xenopho bic, ethnic smear-mongers! The only ones guilty of irresponsible behavior here are the political apologists for Hillary and the media orga nizations that would rather kowtow to political correct ness than follow in the jour nalistic footsteps of the New York Post and Los Angeles Times. One said the late legendary Coach Bobby Dodd must be “whirl ing in his grave.” I agree. Somehow, I don’t remember Tech having any problem filling Grant Field when he was turning out those great teams of his. But then, what do I know? I am just an old and ugly moran. ... All of this may be moot anyway. Earlier this month, while we weren’t looking, Ray Mcßerry, chairman of the Georgia League of the South, attended a secessionist convention in Chattanooga. According to the League, he was there to discuss “the practical use of ‘secession’ as a remedy for the uncon from Asian-American groups who want to deflect atten tion away from suspicious foreign donations. “I’m going to keep reach ing out to everybody in our country. I want to be a presi dent to everybody,” said a defiant Hillary in defense of her indiscriminate fund raising. “Asian-Americans in Chinatown and Flushing have the same right to contribute as every other American,” Howard Wolfson, a campaign spokesman, told several newspapers. “We do not eth nically profile donors.” “Ethnic profiling” is the rhetorical bugaboo the Clintons hope will stave off more investigations and invocations of Asian- American donor scandals past. Learning well from their far-left minority coun terparts, these groups have tried to turn the debate away from candidate and donor responsibility to the collec tive “rights” of the entire “Asian American and Pacific Islander community.” The identity politics tribe can call it “ethnic profiling.” I call it learning from history. We’ve been here so many times before. With convicted DNC fundraiser John Huang and Charlie Trie and Pauline Kanchanalak and Maria Hsia. w/Ar I ■ \\\ ■ a \\ OPINION stitutional encroachments of the out of control and increasingly corrupt federal government upon individual liberties and States’ Rights.” Also attending was the “Second Vermont Republic.” If Vermont and Georgia do secede from the union, Georgia and Georgia Tech will probably have to give up football and play ice hockey all year. The University of Vermont doesn’t play college football (although it does play club football, but that doesn’t count). Nobody in what will remain of the United States will play us since we will be foreigners. It would be like them playing Bolivia. I hope Ray Mcßerry has thought through all of that. Here’s a suggestion: Why don’t all the flaggers move to Atlanta With the Chinese Buddhist monks and nuns who helped engineer a Gore campaign reimbursement scheme and shredded documents related to their temple fundraiser. Democrats apparently believe that only Americans should be saddled by Byzantine campaign finance regulations while foreign donors get a pass. Asian- American lobbyists appar ently believe minority groups should get less scrutiny from the media than everyone else. If it’s “ethnic profiling” to be extra-careful of Chinatown donors who can’t speak English, live in dilapidated buildings, have never voted, can’t tell Hillary Clinton from Hunan Chicken or sim ply can’t be found, then “eth nic profiling” should be the standard procedure of every responsible campaign. Discrimination is not a dirty word when it comes to keeping dirty money out of American politics. Michelle Malkin is author of Unhinged: Exposing Liberals Gone Wild. Some readers have asked me to encourage former U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn to run for president. I’m not sure I carry much weight with him these days, but I am willing to try. Given the underwhelming crop of current candidates in both parties, I hope the sena tor would consider a run. He is a good man and would make a good president. From what I hear, he can raise the money for the campaign. The question is whether he is willing to endure the politi cal mudslinging and charac ter assassinations that are de rigueur these days to get elected to any public office.
