WR wad enters AF Academy training Special to the Journal Jeffrey M. Nakayama has entered Basic Cadet Training at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., in prepara tion to enter the first aca demic year at the academy. The six-week, two-phased orientation program must be successfully completed by the cadets prior to enter ing their freshman year. The training prepares men and women to meet the rig orous mental and physical challenges experienced by new cadets. Phase one involves per sonal in-processing, orien tation, and training in the fundamentals of being a cadet. Cadet trainees are pre pared to adjust from civil ian to military life and dis ciplines, and learn proper wear of the uniform, salut ing policies and procedures, drill and ceremony, march ing, and living quarters standards. During phase two, cadets train outdoors living in tents while learning to function in field conditions. Cadets apply and practice team work, cohesion and learn to deal with physical ly and mentally demanding situations. They complete the obsta cle, confidence, assault, and leadership reaction courses, and participate in a rescue mission termed Operation Warrior. He is the son of Joanna Nakayama of Glenda Drive, Bonaire and is a 2007 grad uate of Warner Robins High School. O’Neal put in the effort to learn about the EMS com munity and industry and is quite familiar with the chal lenges that our profession faces in Georgia. The award is named for the EMS symbol, which is a blue, six-pointed star with the Rod of Asclepius in the center.
