World War II Veterans bow their heads in prayer during the ceremony held in their honor Monday at the Board of
Education in Perry.
This week in HHJ history:
30 years ago:
Robins Air Force Base security police team up with the Boy Scouts of America to begin a new
program entitled Law Enforcement Explorers, designed to give high school and junior high school
age youths an insight to future careers in law enforcement.
Also, it was announced that the Georgia Department of Transportation would be seeking federal
funding to install flashing lights at three “very dangerous” intersections of Interstate 75 in Byron,
Warner Robins and Fort Valley. And, planning began for the third annual “Olde Fashioned Christmas
at the Crossroads" tree decoration for the county courthouse.
20 years ago:
As completion nears for the mid-Georgia Community Action Agency’s new building in Warner
Robins, county commissioners debate naming it after Alton Tucker as a memorial in his honor.
Also, Middle Georgia Technical Institute releases its first “President’s Honor Roll,” and the
Houston County School System announces the establishment of “Partnerships in Education” an
educational improvement program designed to “increase the cooperation between local businesses
and community organizations and the public schools."
10 years ago:
In football, Northside upsets Lowndes and earns a trip to the quarterfinals of the state tournament.
In news, the Houston County Board of Education approved offering the Gang Related Training
and Education, or GREAT program. At the same time, the HCBOE gave the go-ahead for law
enforcement entities to use drug-sniffing dogs in the schools.
